I'm allergic to cats and dander, so none for me. Also can't deal with a cat box.

I think everybody needs a cat and a dog. They compliment each other. A dog will give you unconditional love, they can be goofy yet understand your emotions and are such a great comfort. A cat keeps you grounded. It doesn't take long for a cat to let you know who is the head of the household and that it certainly isn't you. You need to earn their love and respect, yet their purr will melt your heart.

Some of each would be ideal, I agree. I was fortunate in the past to have them both at once, for some time.
3 cats; one slept on our bed, one on the back cushion of the couch and one in the arms of the dog.
One Sunday my husband and I both got very sick with fever and a 24 hour bug. Finally, we collapsed in our double bed and slept deeply. When we woke up, we couldn't get out of bed easily because all 3 cats and a large Irish Setter were on the bed with us, pinning us down!
