The seasonal flu shot might not be necessary for the elderly. It seems our immune system does not react as well and thus makes the shot ineffective. But you can help to prevent the flu by getting daily exercise, making sure to get enough vitamin D, and a healthy diet.

Oh well. Just had mine today. Although I do get a LOT of exercise, have a healthy diet most of the time, and get enough Vitamin D.

I've never had a flu shot and never had the flu. My doctor isn't too concerned. It also helps to avoid people who have the flu, which is hard if you're caring for someone who has it.

I tend to catch things when we fly and we have long flights end of Nov. So I figure a flu jab is a wee bit of insurance.

Oh yes, on flights ... my word, I cringe when I see people just sneeze right out into the air without attempting to cover it. My son is an epidemiologist, so one of these days I'll get onboard with getting the shot.

Just had my annual flu shot yesterday along with a vaccination against Hepatitis A. Getting a "shingles" shot tomorrow.

OMG I see people coughing and sneezing all over the place, and one coughed right in my face when getting in the overhead compartment. Yes, I had a cold two days later. I've started using this nasal spray that is supposed to help prevent catching a cold because it keeps the nose moist, and on planes your nose dries out and cracks making it easier to get the virus in your system.

I'm going to bet you have a boatload of helpful travel tips including this one. If we don't already have a thread, I would enjoy reading tips and travel experiences from those like you who have traveled a lot. I'm comfortable traveling domestically, but in retirement I'd like to be at ease traveling internationally.

I have not had the flu since I stopped flying. I get it every time I fly.
