Remove the things in your life which don't bring you Joy

All of us are guilty of keeping things around our homes that no longer bring us pleasure or no longer used for the purpose they were first bought ..but they're still there..and maybe we pass them on a regular basis and think, we must get rid of them one day and never do..., and they clutter up the place..

.. really we should fill our homes and lives with things that only bring us joy if we possibly can ..so if you can, name 3 things in your home ( No animals or Humans), any 3 things ... which genuinely bring you Joy, what are they ?:D

I think it's decluttering expert, Marie Kondo, who has started the "throw it out if it doesn't bring you joy," thing, but I prefer the William Morris quote, because it includes "useful" and I can't say my cat litter scoop brings me joy, but I need to have it.

Are you alluding to William Morris who said...

“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.” ?

My collection of wines and whiskies often bring me joy 🍷
No I wasn't quoting or misquoting anyone, but tell me Mr Lightning.. how do you remember if those items of yours bring you joy ? :sneaky::LOL:

My computer..genuinely brings me joy....as well as knowledge.. but I really enjoy my computer/s..

My hardback books...

My photographs stored electronically and in the old fashioned method in albums and boxes...

Like you all, I have many other things which bring me joy, but these are just 3 of them

I did get rid of everything that I no longer enjoyed or needed around.. Had to start fresh in my new apartment.

What brings me joy?

1) Family pictures
2) an overall contemporary color scheme in my apartment, mainly of bright teal and matching effects...happy colors.
and then .. 3) my 'white cloud' bedroom, as I call it, that's totally all white with dozens of pillows thrown around and white wall hangings, rugs, bedding etc, and even a small daybed. ... looks like a snowstorm dumped in my bedroom! .. but I love it

I have a few antiques 1800's, early 1900's, some belonging to my grandparents.

Caboose potbelly wood stove original early 1800's.

Daisy churn 1800's.

Wheeler and Wilson treadle sewing machine, 1800's.

When I read Wheeler & Wilson treadle I remembered that my wife's aunt, who taught her dressmaking when my wife was just a child, eight years of age, gave that little girl her old Singer treadle. It has pride of place in her sewing cabin. The radio, or wireless as they were known back in the day, is, I believe, my grandparents silver wedding anniversary gift which would date it to 1927. there's no date on the sewing machine but the bicycle is 1930's. I had it cleaned up and restored so that I could exercise my leg following my hip replacement.
My appearance was the source of amusement when I went out on the bike, dressed as I do.

Thanks for this thread topic, @hollydolly
It caused me, while not online, to ponder the subject, and it lifted my spirits, to realize how many I could name to myself.:)

Among them, is a houseplant, that I have kept going with cuttings from the original one, which had been given to me, many decades ago, by a loved family member.
Other items that bring me joy, are artwork that I made in the past, and items that were hand-made, by my mom.

Love your pics!

The pics of stove and sewing machine was in 2020. Pic with churn was 2018 was my momsprimative mine.jpgsewing macine.jpgstove.jpg. With the churn is my grandmothers milk stool, her iron and my grandads and then dads branding iron. These are my treasures. Not monetary, but my hearts treasures. The sewing machine my youngest son bought me for my birthday 2 years ago, it still works. The caboose stove I bought 2 years ago and will be up and working after stove pipe is installed.

My record player and my precious 45's.
This is silly but there is a pot belly white ceramic vase where I put white daisies on my kitchen table.
I bought it when I was 20 and love the shape of it!
My old dovetail wooden boxes to hold more books!
Well, That's three! i only keep what brings joy.

After purging last year I'm to the point where everything I have left brings me joy. This is a real problem because I have so much.
The hard part for me is thinning out the items left.
My mom loved Roseville pottery. I'm not a big fan but displayed it in my wall unit so she still could enjoy the pieces when she lived with me.
Now she is gone and I still can't part with it because she loved it so much.
My most cherished possessions is the music box my dad gave me and my charm bracelet that has my whole life in charms. I've kept it up to date with every important event in my life.

1 & 2. ipad and iphone

3. Over the years I collected original art by local artists. If I walked in the gallery and something spoke to me instantly, I bought it. Within reason, there some things that were just too expensive. I get lots of compliments from guests.

1. My computer
2. CD collection
3. My mobile chair

All three of these things I am happy when I am using and would miss if I could not. Right now I cannot use my mobile chair due to needing the tires changed and it makes me sad every time I look at it.

Tom T Hall named 4, I kinda like em!

Seriously this is a hard question for me, I have way too many things, sort of hold on to them in case one day they might be needed or make me happy.

it's ok, you don't just have to own 3 things which bring you joy and get rid of the rest ... just name 3 of the things you own which do... (y)

The Teddy bear I've had since my second birthday.

A teapot with the sugar bowl and creamer fitted to the top. My mother and I would have "tea" with it when I was a little girl and I thought it was the most beautiful, clever thing in the world.

A complete set of books by a favorite author. Another favorite book that's out of print.

My puzzles, mostly given to me by my son.

My recliner.
