Rent went up so much!

We are looking to move because our rent went up 6% plus $155! Well, I thought that by law they shouldn't be able to do that. By the state's law that I live in, they can. But really? Anyway, we are looking, and in doing so, we are finding what each of us wants. What we are willing to give up, settle for, and so forth. We live in Texas and so I have found lots of houses for rent, and other apartments. However, the only hick-up is the size of dogs they allow. Oh boy, lots to consider. We have lived here 4 years and have made friends here. Oh well, we are looking today and Monday on the appointments we have scheduled. Wish us luck.

Our rent went from $916 to a whopping $1126! Seniors" income just rise according to prices and we can't just go out and get a job. I could but I haven't worked in a little over 10 years!
 
Good luck with your search. Arizona doesn't have any restrictions on rent either and it skyrocketed in 2020 but apparently it is starting to level off now. Be patient and hopefully you will find something soon .

Thank you. We are being patient. It is proving to be an ordeal we didn't know was coming. They told us in the beginning it was going to be 985, and then this month, just double checking, and she said it went up to 1126 within 30 days!!!!! I don't think they really know what they are doing. But, we are looking elsewhere. Just moving is so stressful.

When you compare, you might find you already have the best deal. Good Luck in your search.
 
What is it going to cost for all the fees for moving? This is a busy time of year.

If you wanted to break your lease in maybe six months, could you? I know nothing about leases. 30 years ago, one (maybe) signed an agreement and just gave notice when leaving.

So sorry to hear about your rent increase! This is becoming one of the quiet tragedies of our age, rising rents and housing security for low income seniors and working people struggling to get by. There is simply not enough affordable housing anywhere in the country now. And there is no incentive to build any. We need to figure out a sensible solution to this. But this is very hard to do in the current political climate in the U.S.

Well, I found a place that is reasonable and hasn't gone up like the rest of them! I am so glad!
