Is it just me
it seems that we don't get many replies
on this site to any posts
The humour ones a washout
complete waste of time
maybe it's because I'm in London
but it's proper pony no banter
hard to be part of a group
if no one replies most of the time
you end up posting to yourself
madness

Hi Bonzo and a belated welcome to the forum. Until 2 years ago I lived in East London. First in Woodford, then Ilford after I got divorced. Then moved up here to Scotland. I agree, there is not a lot of banter particularly between the British members. More, discussion about topics of mutual interest. But we are who we are and generally just chip in where and when we feel the need to. I enjoy the games threads. If nothing else they help one keep the brain alert!

I think it is a function of the variety of posts/forums and also the number that come across in a day. I've found that sometimes a thread will take off if I keep it going by making sure I reply to any post, but there are times when, as you say, a post you're sure will get a reply goes without a reply. It happens. I also think it gets better if you make sure to have a subject line that catches the attention of the rest of the group. When I post something, I try to give a subject line that will catch the attention of folks who may pop in quickly. In the case of this thread, your subject line may not grab someone's attention, but had you expanded on it, more folks would have been inclined to see what you were posting about. I think in my case it goes back to my days at the law firm, where I communicated so much by email. I had to have good subject lines to get the attention of a lawyer (always hyper busy) or another manager. Had your subject line said something as simple as "getting more attention for posts", that immediately tells someone what you're commenting on. Just a suggestion. More is better in this case.

I sometimes wonder if it puts off some overseas members with all the political discussion related to the US presidential election.

I've enjoyed some occasional posting to the board. However, I simply do not have time to read each and every post and reply to them. I keep thinking that if I ever get retired, perhaps I can spend more time on discussion boards. But, there goes my time to play golf or exercise by walking or ....... I subscribe to 2 senior boards, 2 political boards, 4 golf boards, 1 Black Labrador board, 1 local news board, and try to keep up with kids and grandkids on Facebook. So, I sorta "cherry pick" what I respond to. It's not a lack of interest.

I enjoy replying to discussions, that is if I can manage to think of something not too inane or outlandish!
It does take a little effort.

Lately I find I am at a loss for words, not exactly sure why. So I have been reading here more and lurking more I guess. I do respond to some posts when I get an inkling.

Lately I haven't been on much for the last month and a half because I'm still licking my wounds from my brother's death and all that was involved. It's hard to lighten up sometimes. When I'm feeling down and state something that I know is true and someone disagrees, it puts me in a funk. That will pass, but it may be a while.

Bonzo, I do read your posts and enjoy them. Will try to leave a message in the future to let you know that!

There are several kinds of posters (members). Some are deeply into politics and rave on and on.

Others are into informative topics like health and meds, insurance and financing etc.

Some have the brains to get into these discussions but would rather not and keep things in a lighter mode (mood).

Ya gotta pick your replies and stay out of the threads that either don't interest you or even annoy you.

So far, this is a very nice forum. Some have left and a few banned due to their style.

You were wondering about replies~~~~ What I've mentioned (above) is my take on it.

If you don't like it don't read it, I don't.

People post about what interests them and the fact is that most people on this forum are Americans and interested in American politics!

If I found that hard to accept I'd go elsewhere. As it is I find it a good grass roots indicator of what interests real Americans, not the drug crazed, gun toting, red necks so often portrayed bi our mass media.

1 ditto.gif......I did not come to SF for politics, I can get that elsewhere..I have games and politics forums blocked and surf the other areas..Most members that have been banned visited the politics forum..

I read mostly because I don't know what to say. Believe me, it's one of those "rare times" when I don't know what to say. Those that know me would tell you to "Enjoy it while you can". :)

Bonzo, it helps if you stick with one general subject in each thread, rather than mix them up. That way repliers have a direction. Also people have to get to know someone before they start teasing them. At least I do. Heck, that doesn't even help sometimes. You're dealing with seniors here. Ha! :rose:
