Requirements For Sleeping Well & Bed Sheets

I haven't been sleeping well for some time now and came to the conclusion yesterday morning that it was because of my attractive, but too thin bed sheets. I have toilet paper that is thicker than both sets of my sheets. So off I went to buy new sheets after seeking consul from one of my female apartment neighbors. Women you see, know about these things. After browsing through stacks of Percale sheets with a high thread count I settled on standard all white 100% Cotton. Voila!! It worked, I actually had a better night last night, however, I think I need a couple of new pillows. How about you? Any bedtime sleep requirements?

Getting a share of the quilt:laugh: is what I needed, so I bought a king size quilt for our Queen size bed.. I like good quality sheets , like Laurie mentioned it's getting harder to get" nice"sheets ...I was lucky enough to get about 18 Mtrs of New Actil sheeting while browsing through an Opp shop in our area just over a year ago and made my sheets myself fitted and top, sheet ( Actil sheets, bedspreads etc were once considered the best you could buy and were made in Adelaide ..Now they come from China) The size of the bed makes a difference also,I have splept in a single bed when away by myself and can never get a decent nights sleep

I find 400 thread count, Egyptian 100% cotton to be the best, soft, strong and smooth, if you can still get it. I haven't bought new sheets in years. I love vintage print sheets from the 60s & 70s, usually all cotton and very good quality, made in Canada or US, now only found in thrift shops or online.

The boyfriend went out last week and bought a new set of sheets.....800 count cotton. Those things are like boards! They take forever to dry and I hate the feel. I said "get 400-600 count sateen"....he heard, of course, nothing. Sigh.
Thanks for the tip. I have an unopened pkg of 800 ct. w/receipt and bag. They are Sateen (which I always look for too) but I'm going to return them for 400-600. I don't want them to feel like boards.
I also look for Egyptian, Cookie, but haven't been able to find them recently.

The only requirement I have for sheets is that you be able to slide around in the bed easily with them. A big plus is if they come out of the dryer wrinkle free.

I bought a set of 600 count Egyptian cotton sheets a couple of years ago. They are nice, but very thick. Don't think the extra thread count improves. They are not wrinkle free and every time you wash them they seem to get softer. I have another set that is a 40% polyester blend, and I like them better for the reasons above.

My daughter always buys me sheets....soooo I decided this time Ill buy my own ,measured the sheets and away I will go....but no you guys are talking about 400-600 count sateen
percale sheets,Egyptian, Cookie,etc...

What is this "count"?

I never counted the threads in my sheets. I haven't got a clue what I'm sleeping on. Every thing I have is left from my wife.
All I know is that its a royal pain changing fitted sheets, and there's no way to fold them neatly to put in the closet

haha @ counting the threads yourself  The thread count is on the packaging. To save you from the royal pain of changing fitted sheets, you can buy the kind that have "deep pockets". That just means more space for fitting around the corners. Then there is *extra deep pockets* for those of us who have added a 2" memory foam to the top of the mattress or you have a *pillow-top* mattress.

It gets more and more complicated the more we discuss this :D

Yes it does. Another simple activity of life that the marketing industry has turned into a hopelessly complicated stew.
You can't even flip the mattress over any more.

I never use fitted sheets, they are a pain, always buy flat sheets and tuck them in well.I can sleep on any sheets as long as they have some cotton in them, the count ( sounds like Dracula) doesn't bother me and the high cotton count ones are mega expensive. What I do like are fresh sheets, pillow cases and duvet cover, so change them twice a week.

We just bought some 400 count Eucalyptus sheets from BedBathandBeyond, LOVE them! They are so soft and comfortable and with our HOT summer we're having, nice and cool feeling. Pricey even with the 20% off coupon, but man are they nice. Our other set is 100% cotton. Like those too, especially when we hang them outside to dry.

I have to have all cotton at least 300 thread count. I use my thinner sheets in the summer and the heavier ones in the winter.

I love the feel of the old cotton sheets made in the USA. I'm not even finding them in thrift shops anymore.

I've stocked up on several sets of cotton sheets since I worried they may get harder to find.
