Time to get back on line. It's almost a month since our son died and for the first time in almost 50 years, there's just the two of us rattling around in this house.
Our daughters have just left after being snowed in with flights cancelled and roads blocked. The girls, who were very 'close' to their brother, were real stars, taking care of the admin, financial arrangements etc..

We knew Graeme, our son, was a collector, but when it came to it, it turned out that he was a bit of a hoarder, especially when it came to books and magazines. We're trying to sort out anything that we might sell, and plan to donate a large amount of books to a charity who use the proceeds to provide educational material to third world countries.

Life must go on and the day to day chores must be done, so it's off to do a bit of housekeeping.

I’m so very sorry for the loss of your son. A couple of my friends have lost children and it is indeed heartbreaking and the toughest thing that you’ll ever go through.

Only time helps and they both survived it and have found happiness again . I’m so glad that you and your husband have your daughters also for support.

@Capt Lightning, I'm so glad to see you back! I was just thinking of you the other night and hoping you and your family are coping as well as is possible given such a tremendous loss.

I too lost my only Son so I have some idea of what you are going through. I don't think you ever totally get over such a loss, but over time the pain lessens.

Pretty much this^^^

The best advice I got when my lost my son 33 years ago was to take life one literal heartbeat at a time. That’s all I was capable of for many years.

hugs and warm thoughts to you and your family.❤️💐

Thank you for all your replies. It's the simple things that catch us out - things like setting another place at the table, or making an extra cup of coffee. He was a very private person and it's only now that we're getting to know him. Our daughter told us that when they returned from school and before Mrs. L and I got back from work, he would compose backing tracks on a little Yamaha keyboard and they would make up songs together. So many small things I never knew.

Yes.

The last load of my son’s clothes that I washed stayed hung in the laundry area until I moved. I packed his shirts and took them with me. I still have everything he ever made during his school years.

Please do not let anyone tell you how you should be grieving. It takes a different form for each of us.

Welcome back. It's okay taking your time to experience your feelings. Different thoughts will come and go, but I hope there will be many good memories.
