Ric Ocasek, lead singer of the new wave rock band The Cars, died Sunday in New York City, police said. He was 75.
The New York Police Department received a call around 4 p.m. "for an unconscious male" at a townhouse on East 19th Street, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Public Information told CNN.
Ocasek, whose identity was confirmed by police, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cars became hugely popular in the late 1970s and early 80s with hits including "My Best Friend's Girl" and "Drive."

He was a “gas” in the movie, “Hairspray.” I also liked him singing lead. He and Benny used to go around about who should sing lead on certain songs.

Marie,no need to apologize.
It just seems to me lately when I write a post about a famous person whether its an actress/actor/singer,who has died I think it should be in the entertainment section not here in the'Current News'. That's my own opinion Sue

No worries. I did a quick look for a post and did not see one, because I know you usually post. So I went ahead and put it here.
I do want to also respond to @911 that I had forgotten about his appearance in Hairspray.

He was a great guy and so funny. Lol. Ben was a dream. I knew them both before they hit it big in the Cars. They had been in a band called Milkweed before. That was when I met them. RIP Ric.

Too many people in my age bracket are dying. 9/16/19
ABC's Cokie Roberts died 9/17/19 I think that justifies my previous comment.

It is kind of strange that people of our age bracket are dying off, but humanity continues unbroken. It's like the cells in our own bodies. They die off, but the body continues. So you have to wonder what is life? Is it the existence of one human? Or is it the existence of the human race?
