Rights of the Disabled

Far too many regulations from too many agencies. While some help for disabled people is important the cost/benefit should be considered.

Also disabled people should know their limitations and make adjustments as needed without expecting the government to do everything for you.

Perhaps they don't have the money and need the govt. to help them.

The handicapped folks I know do all they can for themselves and don't expect the government to help. The only thing they do that helps me are the disabled parking spots since I can't walk far. I don't expect much since even the president makes fun of us. Hope you never have to live like those of us that are handicapped, rkunsaw. I don't ask for special treatment and never will. Thanks for the links on case we ever would like to know more!

I understand some don't have money and I'm not against government help, but handicapped people need to accept that they have limitations and adjust to them.

BTW I have Parkinson's Disease and can't get around very well. I do have a handicap parking sticker.

I don't mind making sure there are ramps, wide enough aisle in stores or safety bars etc. But I do agree that anyone, not just the disabled need to have more realistic expectations and/or realizations about their abilities. Doesn't mean they can't be improved or altered but the world is not there for you.

What bugs me just as much are the disabled that say they want to be independent don't want special treatment etc yet solicit it in a backdoor manner with a pity party approach. I know one person rather than ask someone or take up an offer assistance will drag a grocery bag across a lawn like a dog on leash hoping someone will notice an offer help on the spot. "They were so nice" yet the same people have given them open offers of help but they refuse to ask.
