Rod Stewart Repairs Potholes in a Road Leading to His Home

The Essex County Council have ignored potholes in the roads in rural
Essex for years, I read in a paper a year or so ago, that they regard
potholes as the best speed controls in any roads, so they ignore them,
main roads and motorways are well maintained, this upsets residents,
so Rod Stewart got a group of men together and started to repair the
road, trying to shame the council, who were not impressed, but they
did say thank you.

Mike.

Potholes are an annual problem in any climate that has freezing weather in the Winter. We live on a gravel road, and the Winter weather and heavy Springtime rains often make a mess of it. However, several of us have tractors with blades or rakes, and if it gets very bad, we have a "Boys Day Out", and fix it up ourselves. It's kind of fun, and we usually do a better job than the county does with its graders.

We pay our road taxes too..sky high road taxes but for the last couple of years we've had potholes springing up everywhere, and causing millions of ££'s of damage to cars.

It's actually illegal to fill in potholes if you're not an official contractor, but down the lane where Rod lives it was impassable because of huge craters, and he drives a Ferrari among other top of the range cars and the cars were being damaged , so he got his mates and filled in the hole himself..it's been all over the media for the last 2 days....I think the council will have some nerve trying to bring a prosecution against him

There were these Roamd roads,, Via Salaria – The Salt Road. Via Appia – Via Aurelia – Via Emilia – Via Cassia –. They are thousands of years old, and cars still drive on them, today. Why could the Romans build roads that lasted millennia, and today roads last less than 10 years. Maybe if we fed a few politicians to the lions, in the Coliseum, we'd might have better roads?????

With the taxes we pay in Toronto, if any road got that bad, people would be tearing down the doors at City Hall!
we always felt that's what would happen here if our roads got like they are in many places on the continent, and particualrly since we pay such high council and road taxes.. but nope, everyone complains but does nothing about it...

It's sad that residents have to fill the many potholes. Of course, I've seen many, but Sir Rod's street is among the worst or maybe the worst I've ever seen.

You really have to drive extremely slowly to avoid damage to your vehicle.

Insurance-wise, damage due to potholes is often covered under Collision insurance and may be counted against the policy holder as "at fault" damage; (he didn't slow down for road conditions)

However, grossly neglected roads by the city may mitigate the driver's claim for repairs. In a case like this, I would go to court if my damage was serious.

That is one of the theories about what happened to Jimmy Hoffa, he disappeared down a New Jersey pothole and was never seen again.

Yeah, they are horrible around here. Road repair is ridiculous around here. Hard to get the government to do a single thing.

Citizens should somehow get together, and form a private fund to take care of all the stuff that the government neglects.

Around here, they really stopped properly lighting the roads at night! Been going on for, oh...at least 30 years. So incredibly dangerous.

they're like that in thousands of places around the country now... there are thousands of motorists who are trying to sue the council..

The street where I used to live had a few potholes, I went
on line and reported 2, because I knew the house numbers,
that they were outside, the council came along and repaired
them, but drove past 4 or 5 others that weren't reported.

They need to save some of the money, so that they can get
huge salary increases every year!

Mike.

God bless him.
Living in the country, we have only just got fog street lights finally after God knows how long.
It's common knowledge here, that if you want the potholes fixed you put your complaints and repair bills into council around the month of May, that's when they use up the last of their money before they are granted more in the month of June.
