Rose Parade..Never on Sunday

Learned an interesting tidbit about why the Rose parade in Pasadena and the Rose Bowl are being held today rather than yesterday, on the first. Apparently, early organizers of the parade came up with the Never on Sunday rule for the parade as they did not want the people and the marching bands to spook the horses who were out side the churches along the parade route. They just always kept the rule. Here is an article about it.

I do not watch college football, but this was always my favorite of the holiday parades, so I figured the same thing..because the pro games were yesterday.
 

Another tidbit..thanks to Al Roker from NBC. NBC first began airing the parade on television in 1952. Prior to that they broadcast it on the radio.
 
You mean to tell me I could have watched the parade yesterday?!! I thought I missed it. I didn't intend to watch the entire thing but wanted to see some of it. The last few years, I've been disappointed. It seems the floats are not nearly as beautiful as they used to be. Still, I'm going to see if they have it on Hulu Plus.
