Rude Realtor

I saw a cute little bungalow for sale, so I pulled over and copied down the contact information. I called the real estate company and asked about the house. The agent I spoke with had no idea what I was talking about and said if I gave he my phone number, she would call me back after she looked into it. She did callback in about 20 minutes, but asked me a lot of questions about my house, if I was selling, if I was working with an agent, if I could afford to buy a house while mine was still on the market, etc. I told her that when I got ready to sell, another realtor had first refusal on marketing it. Her attitude suddenly changed from Dorothy Gale to Joan Crawford. She said, "The house is sold and if you ever need any further assistance from a realtor, call (the name of the agent I had mentioned to her)!" and she slammed down the phone.

I just wonder why, if her agency had this house, why she seemed to know nothing about it and why the hostility and reticence to share info after I gave her a lot of personal data?

How odd!

I've been speaking with a number of realtors recently about different properties and none of them has ever asked me questions like that. I'm sorry that happened to you. Their job, if they're really trying to sell a property, is to answer questions; not ask them.

Well, now you know for sure who you don't want to deal with in the future.

If this happened to me I would report the Realtor to their "Governing Body".

It is bad enough being spoken to badly by somebody that pays you to work
for them, but nobody should have to put up with it from a realtor who you
might be paying to work for you.

Be careful about any information that you give out, take this as a lesson
learned and hopefully with little damage.

Mike.

It could have been an old sign that should have been removed or a new agent that had not been trained well. The broker who owns the agency should be told about your experience and, if that was the broker, stay far far away.

Also, disreputable real estate offices will sometimes sneak a "For Sale" sign on a very desirable property that is not actually for sale. The property might belong to an absentee owner or be a vacant rental property. The sign is a hook that is designed to attract viable customers that can then be switched to buy something else that actually is for sale.
