Russian Planes Buzz US Ship, About As Close As They Can Get Without Crashing

Russian fighter jets buzz/fly as close to a US ship as they could get without crashing. Several times. The approach would've also justified a shoot down since it is a tact used by attacking planes. Or a reprimand if a US pilot did that.

I think the Ruskie pilots saw Top Gun one time too many

As I've posted elsewhere, it's not unusual.

I can remember in the 60s coming across the Sverdlov in a place when we thought she was somewhere else. We flew around for some minutes taking pictures of new antennae and protroberances. Since we used hand held cameras back then we needed to be pretty close!

Every weapon system on the ship tracked us from start to finish!

Oh it's not that it's the first time but this was a danger for proximity reasons alone. The approach which was basically los or line of sight if you see video would've allowed for manual or visual targeting so a weapons tracking system wouldn't even have been needed meaning the ship didn't have a clue other than it was a pilot testing/messing with them-what if they didn't. Same for the two planes mid air, the jet was reported to be with in 50 ft of the other plane-that's an accident and international incident waiting to happen.

Still quite normal. We have fully armed Typhoons on permanent Quick Reaction Alert which are scrambled, usually to intercept the good old Bear, every month or so as Vlad probes our defences. The last time was in February.

I can assure you they get closer than fifty feet!

"Russian pilots are pretty good. "

Pretty good descries some of the smaller NATO countries.

Russian pilots are very good!
