Saints or Sinners

Gardenlover

The world needs more love
The thread "Old Flames" got me to thinking - thank you so very much for the flash back @grahamg :). I've lived my life on both sides of the tracks - as I suppose a lot of people here have. I'm nothing special and hopefully I'll always keep this in mind.

In your lives, who have you found more comforting? Saints, the sinners or something else entirely?

Personally I've found more companionship and brotherhood with bikers than I have ever found with church folk and it makes me long for my younger days. It was much more a life of united we stand or divided we fall mentality. I feel it's every man or woman for themselves now-a-days, which saddens me. However, looking back on our glory days is always the best isn't it? Even back then everything was not prefect.

I'm not looking for answers or attempting to pit one group against the other, just sharing thoughts as the forum seems a bit slow to me tonight, as I ponder days gone by. - thanks to @grahamg lol 🥳

Mostly the something elses for me. Saints are too saintly, though I used to belong to churches. Sinners - how do you define a sinner anyway? Bikers are not sinners but people who like freedom. Sinners can be fun, but I'd prefer to stay out of trouble. I like intelligent fun loving people mostly. :giggle:

Well thought out response - thank you.

(In my opinion) Sin is only a word to describe wrong or ignorant actions purposefully performed. After you distinguish right and wrong, you are aware of the soul growth that must occur within. (of yourself, BY yourself)
I've always been more intrigued with the ornery, the rebellious, rough, rugged spirit. I like men who are not fully tamed and won't be. Men who won't take crap from anyone, refuse to be nagged, who will stand up for himself, an intimidating man's man. who commands respect. . I like men who won't be fenced in, maybe a little hedonistic, but know what they like and are not afraid to go after it! (Guess i should have lived a hundred years ago!) but dull, placid, holier-than-thou do-gooders, I run away from!
Don't know that I would classify a man like that as a sinner though! Just a man who knows his own mind!

I’ve been lucky enough to have found wonderful people in every type of group regardless of age, race, religion, or gender. I’ve rode a motorcycle across the country and met some of the nicest bikers ever but I’ve also befriended some amazing Mennonites who accepted me into their group and invited me to their church service & later, dinner.

I actually got to go to church in a horse pulled carriage and sing to my hearts content. It was one of the most cherished experiences I’ve ever had. Some of my most loved relatives are strict religious. Playing with innocent children is a joy in itself but so is meeting old folks in nursing homes.

Isn’t how we view or judge others , from our own perspective? A perspective that changes depending on age, experience and circumstance. When I was young I loved going to concerts, dancing at clubs and going to parties where there were lots of drugs and alcohol. None of these people were sinners. It’s just what most young folks did. Some people still enjoy doing that when they get older but I’m not one of them. It doesn’t make them bad or sinners.

I can feel comfortable with almost every type of person if it’s one on one however crowds of people intimidate me.

I like real people, can't stand saints, too perfect to be real in my experience. On the other hand, to each his or her own choices. As long as that is what they chose. I am not perfect, don't like a lot of people around me...all my choice of course. I do better here in the remote country, love each and every day of it.
The best way for me to say it is, I treat people the way I like being treated. If that does not work for you...good bye.

The relevant issue for me is the deliberate bringing of suffering to people or the world.....in contrast to the fostering of goodwill and wellbeing.
I've known some judgmental, pious, would-be saints who, though well meaning, behaved hurtfully over and over again.
I've also known a few rough hewn outlaws who conducted themselves with generosity, respect and fair play.

So saints or sinners? It's all in how one defines the terms. IMO

I'm in awe of some saints I've come to know
Not bible thumping holier than thous, but goodly, Godly folks
They're easy to spot; warm, genuine smile, soft spoken, not easily riled
Kind, loving, going about their things, but easy to stop and chat with

As far as sinners
Well, I'm one, so I fit in with most anybody

As it turns out, I just like most folks
Those that are of a different background are most attractive to me
It's very educational
Has always given me a perspective I might not have had

Got invited to a few native American tribal sessions
Now, THAT was interesting

Bikers?
Hell, half my cousins are bikers....gang types
Doesn't have to be Thanksgiving to have a feast with those dudes

.....and I may have been a biker for awhile in my early life
Thought, at one time not that long ago, I might get hold of another panhead and just cook down a road
But.....it was just a thought

This!!! People from different backgrounds fascinate me. That's the main attraction of online forums.

As for saints or sinners, I've always gotten along with scoundrels if they're the fun kind. I've known very few genuine saints, but the few I've come across, I've loved dearly.

Seen a few nice rides in the last week, die hard riders. You have to be to be out up this way so soon.
This is the only time of year I miss it.

Can I add something else? Gardenlover, You said you,ve had more companionship with bikers than you ever had in church. I've known ladies who had such pretence of sweetness and piousness ( they say "Bless you my child" to everyone they meet.) ,but catch them on a Wednesday or Thusday when the church has worn off and they are truly evil demons. I've also been friends with bikers, covered in tatoos, wearing black leather, who party, laugh and talk coarsely about women, beer, Harleys, who have proven to be not only intelligent, but the kindest, most gentle, most honorable men I've ever met. No pretence! They stand behind their word, have their own value system, their own belief system, their own spirituality, and would give their lives for a stranger.
So Who is the saint and who is the sinner?
