Salad Recall --- Listeria

I never buy the prepared bags. I like to choose things that look good, fresh. Who nows what chemicals are added to the produce in bags to help it look and stay fresh. Chopping up a salad, prepping brussel sprouts, cabbage, green beans, fruit is not hard unless you have a physical problem that prevents you from doing it. So many things are much more economical when you are willing and able to do the work. I admire those that are willing and able to grow their own vegetables and fruits. That of course, is the best way to know what you are eating.

Yes, I am one of those who can't do the work. Too many car accidents. In 2015, was walking in a parking lot and run over by an SUV. Multiple injuries, many permanent.

I can chop a few things...I just can't do enough of it or every day. Just a bit here and there.

I am in support groups for other folks like me. Many of us have enormous problems, because it does become hard to find good quality food for reasonable prices. Many illnesses really rob folks of their energy levels. And that is at the core of everything. Once your energy levels drops off...you are really pushed to the wall and everything becomes an enormous effort. Plus, you can push yourself, but then, things happen.

For me, one of my problems is that my joints don't hold. Everything keeps popping out of place...fingers, wrists, ankles, hips, knees...everything. Plus endless Charlie Horse cramping and tons of other things to.

Not fun.

I mean, you have to accept the cards you are dealt and do the best you can with them.

But much of the ordinary things folks do to save money and be safe...we just can't do.

I am so sorry to hear that you suffered such a horrible accident. I know there are many that trouble with mobility, arthritis in their hands.

I have minor health issues compared to what you are dealing with. I did to have a hip replacement last year. It was only really hard for the first 6 to 8 weeks. I would carry my produce on my walker, and hooked up a big tote bag in the front. I could put a cutting board, knife and bowels in it. I would just roll my self back to my chair. Set my self up, chop up enough for a few days. Put in the bowls, roll everything back to the kitchen. Put in the fridge. It is a good way to get things done when you can't walk well or stand for long.

I do have that energy issue so I try to get want I need done in the early part of my day. I just do things in short spurts. When I get tired I stop and have a good rest. I am glad you don't push, it does make us more prone to have an accident if we get too tired.

It is so true we just have to deal the best way we can. I bet you do very well with the adjustments you have had to make.

I don't doubt for a second that you have enormous struggles. I am certainly not alone.

I am sorry that you have to deal with all that.

Do you have some family and friends for support?

I hope so.

take care.

I don't have any where near the challenges you deal with. I have a son, DIL and grandson. They live about 30 minutes away. I can call anytime I need help with something. My son comes over at least twice a month to do the yard. I make a little list of other things to help me with when he is here, changing lightbulbs, moving furniture, help with the dogs.

It is just in his nature. He grew up watching his Dad take care of his grandmother after his granddad passed.

I try to avoid calling him between visits unless it is somethin that can't wait. They both work very hard, busy with my grandson.

I hope you have family and friends that you can call on.
Thanks for the visit!!

I am glad you have people. Makes all the difference. Mine stuck around for a couple of years and then all left. Been ill since 1983. No real help or support since maybe 1985.
