Saturday, I finish my open water scuba diving certification. I completed 2 dives in the Saint Lawrence River, Alexandria Bay last month. I failed to complete a regulator recovery skill. I was out of breath, could not locate my regulator when the instructor shoved his regulator in my mouth and towed me to the exit point. So on Saturday I will attempt to recover my reg by reaching overhead to the second stage primary air hose. When I use the side-sweep method, I cannot feel the reg hose through my dry-suit, so it is hard to determine if the reg hose is present.
The scuba board forum shared some advice about dry suit squeeze that occurs when your dry suit contracts because of outside changes in pressure. To compensate for dry suit squeeze, there needs to be proper air circulation within the suit. Otherwise the suit is like shrink wrap in a microwave.
