(True Story) I came out of my doctors examination room and waked out to the waiting room area and there I saw a woman reading a book. Reading a book!!! And it was one of those hard cover books like our parents used to have. Where in the hell does she get off?! The other patient sat quietly, motionless staring in to her phone searching for the true meaning of life like so many other millions of Americans.

I love hard bound books and always take one to the doctor's office while I am waiting. Guess thats why I get stares as others play mindless games on their phone! I am reading a great paperback called "Lies we believe about God". I am enjoying it at home as I don't have an appointment right now.

"…[It's] easier to eat while I’m reading. That’s my main priority when it comes to food. Other people are obsessed with calories, nutritional value, antioxidants. I look at food and wonder: Can I eat that without having to put my book down?" ~~from The Secret, Book & Scone Society by Ellery Adams

Knowing that I’d face a lengthy wait in the examination room of a specialist, I took a paperback book in with me. There was no worry then in my mind about drained batteries or potentially dropping or losing expensive electronics. When the doc finally entered twenty minutes later and caught me with a book, he said that he was delighted to see someone who was “old school...”

A few years back, I was reading a book while waiting in the exam room for the doctor to come in. When he did come in, he asked what book I was reading (The Confession by John Grisham). With a disgusted look on his face, he says "Grisham, huh?" and shook his head. I guess doctors don't like lawyers much?

Hey! That's me. I still read "real" books while at the doctor's office. Everyone else stares at the phone and looking for those "messages from loved ones" they were promised by the smartphone companies. I have a feeling a lot of them can't read more than a sentence at one time. As for their education level, ha, your guess is as good as mine. The smartphones are another drug; just like alcohol, pot or cocaine! The people are addicted and can't live without it.

It is unfortunate but even the libraries are going electronic. I logged in the other day wanting to add a series of 4 books to be picked up. They had the first one in hard cover and the rest in something called over drive or books that you listen to rather than read.

And I do not even know what over drive is :unsure:

Overdrive is the software (I think it's software, or some kinda computer process anyway) that some libraries, incl. mine, use so you can check out ebooks from them and read on your e-reader like a Kindle or Nook, or even on your computer (all you have to do is download the Overdrive app to your computer, I did, it's free).
