Scam email "subject titles" that make me laugh

They are getting better, though. Some will contain the name of a friend you've recently e-mailed, "Emergency from Betty" or claim to be your grandson stuck somewhere without money to get home.

Just in the last few months our number of ads in the e-mail and calls from telemarketers has soared. Yesterday I had five phone calls in one hour. Did some laws run out at the first of the year?

I got some with facebook friend's names in email titles. I think it was related to those nasty neighbors I had when I owned that house. They got my phone number even though I was unlisted and had it changed. I think they may have been able to find my facebook through email. I'm not easy to find as my last name is relatively common and I don't list the town I live in.

I think they knew someone who worked at the phone company. How they did the email, I'm not sure. I also got weird phone calls with my phone number landline with the cable company. They stopped when I stated their names and that I knew it was them. And I wasn't nice about it. I called them choice names including profanity.

Got one a few years back from Muammar Gaddafi's widow.

Poor woman had millions and only needed access to my bank account to pull herself out of poverty. I was even going to end up with a few million.

Don't recall the subject line, but its the one I best remember.
Oh, yes. I've heard from her, too. Unfortunate she's still trying to get those millions, but good on her for having a computer and internet service.

I have a Yahoo mail account and I don't get any. Try switching.
No, this email is business related. That's probably why I get so much spam. It almost always happens after I create an account on a business related website, so obviously, those websites sell my info. I can filter them.

Yahoo is my secondary email. I get garbage there, too, but not as much.

Possibly, but it might have more to do with the Medicare cycle....you know, when you can change your plan or provider? That's probably a good time for scammers to go phishing.

Here are some subject lines that have come to me this year. The actual messages range from short two-liners to quite long, detailed stories. (I hang on to these emails for a while for their entertainment value). I have heard that the Ukraine charity scams are big these days.

years ago when I used Microsoft..I used to get loads...all those Nigerian scams etc.. but now I rarely get any on the Mac.. the occasional couple in a week which go straight into my junk email..and they're getting cleverer and cleverer.. cloning your banks' details, and looking for all the world as if it's come from your bank or credit card providers... sometimes you'll see that you've apparently sent and email to yourself.. because they've cloned your email... you have to have your wits about you for sure.

However yes over the years I've ad many that we've had a real laugh at...

All of mine go straight to spam. The filter recognizes it. Sometimes I read the contents just for yuks, and yeah, some of the scams are pretty elaborate but a lot of them have some very entertaining spelling and grammar errors. But it's tragic that they prey on vulnerable people successfully. It's infuriating.

I get e-mail scams from banks I don’t deal with telling me that they’ve locked my account due to “suspicious activity,” and urging me to click on a provided link immediately.

There are also the impersonators of places I do occasionally visit, like Amazon and eBay, again with dire warnings that suspicious activity has been detected, my account there locked, and to contact them immediately.

Then there are the claims that multiple expensive computers or other costly items have been charged to my account, and to cancel the order, contact them at a provided link or number. All are intended to instill a sense of panic and urgency, and to get a response so that they can milk you for actual bank and identity information…. 😫
