From watching animal shows you are never supposed to look at approaching animals in the eyes.
You're right, but what a hair-raising few minutes. The boys life as well as his fathers were spared.

The adults were "frantic" and yet they managed to catch it on video. You see a bear menacing your child, and your first instinct is to whip out your cell phone. Hmmm...
Not out of context. Family is out for the day hiking, whatever, a few pictures and video is taken, and just like that, big bear enters the scene.
Myself, had I been the one behind the camera, smart phone, whatever was being used, I would definitely not have been able to carry on capturing the footage, but everyone reacts differently.
Just happy for the family that big bear spared them.
I agree.
My husband watched the footage and said that between the boy not making eye contact and moving away slowly, in combination with the bear noticing two other people within close range, the two factors played in favour of the family. Had the boy been on his own, my husband said he's convinced the outcome wouldn't have been the same.
