Schizophrenic squirrel

I swear this one squirrel is schizo. He jumps around like a rabbit, runs around in circles and rolls around on the ground. Then he'll dash up a maple tree to a skinny branch near the ground, climb out on the branch, turn upside down and crawl to the end of the branch until it bends to the ground. Then he lets go, falls to the ground, and looks up to watch the branch spring back up. Then he does it over and over, rolling on the ground in between his runs up the tree. I watched him do it 11 times in a row. This can't be normal behavior! He looks healthy enough, just acts weird.

I wish I had that squirrel in my backyard; it sure would be entertaining along with the cardinals always calling. We have a couple of different squirrels and sometimes they get into an argument - they can sure run fast!

I love our squirrels. We feed them in the winter & they provide a lot of entertainment to us & the cats.

@caroln, just curious as to what color he is? Our Fox squirrels seem to be the craziest to us.
Just a common gray squirrel. Looks to be young, so maybe just getting energy out!

Maybe he is a pet and doesn’t know how to act like a squirrel! My mom raised a baby squirrel who fell out the tree nest as a baby in virginia, about a week old, eyes still shut. Thought it was a cat, raised with kitten, and german shepherd. The cat and squirrel both played running up and down the stairwell all day.
