School Made Six-year-old Girl Do 'Cafeteria Walk Of Shame

OK, so after calling the local school district administration office a little while ago and then being transferred from this person to that person three times, I finally spoke with someone who knew the answer to my question.

I referred to what happened to the little girl in this post and she assured me that would never happen to any child in our school district, which gave me a feeling of relief. The lady that I spoke with was also quite taken back with how the little girl was treated. She thought they were very cruel to treat her in the manner they had.

I offered to donate to the fund that the district has established, but she said that the fund never dries up because it has a guarantee deposit to the school lunch fund from the general fund, if it should drop below a certain dollar amount.

How can we.....secure a volunteer program where money is collected to strictly feed these kids?

No funding from taxes, [the kids won't get it] . A complete separate collection/donation altogether . All on a complete volunteer basis. How do we [if we organize it] keep it honest? Just throwing money at a problem from an emotional point of view never works. The greedy always get their portion. Some people just cannot afford higher taxes, but they may have a few extra bucks, after fed tax refund for example.

I'll take some of my old pleasure spending money and feed kids.......But I'll be damned if I'll support a tax increase!
I live in a small town in upstate NY.
Chobani yogurt manufactured here, the gentleman who owns it has just recently donated 50k to pay off all school lunch bills in a state that escapes me at the moment,it isn't NY though.

If I had been one of the staffers, I would have paid the $2.25 so the girl could have had a decent lunch. People are becoming so greedy and selfish these days. Common humanity doesn't seem to exist anymore. This is just abhorrent.

@ chic

I'm sure you would have; any of us probably would have. But the child was humiliated.

Something else occurred to me: there might be a rule/restriction against staff paying for a student's lunch. I don't know if that was the case, but it's possible.

I might not have reached in my pocket and paid for it but I would've swiped her lunch card given her a wink and told her to enjoy her lunch! :):playful::eek:nthego:

Thinking about this situation makes me wonder how much food is tossed in the trash or carried home by staff at the end of each school day.

This school in Indiana is working with a local group to rescue the leftovers.
