Sears On The Verge of Bankrutpcy. Stock under 50 cents per share.

This. I never understood it either. Yes there are odd or hard to items online only but for stuff that can be easily bought in a store I want to see it, the box, how it was handled, damage etc. Along with seeing how it's actually made. Stunned of the quality of stuff I actually see that I researched online. I read onetime that Sears closed it's catalog business because the returns were too costly, especially with their satisfaction guaranteed warranty.

Ironic that Sears was sorta of the first online retailer with that catalog and now online competition is one of things that is killing them.

Funny you mention that the young people seem to prefer online. I recently read something that many college age kids don't know how to buy postage stamps because they are so used to to internet. Also makes me wonder exactly how profitable these online retailers are. Yes the sales are through the roof and several warehouses and distribution centers are cheaper than 100s of store but shipping/logistics are an expense.

Sidenote since bad drivers were mentioned today. I'm starting to see alot, I mean of alot of local delivery cargo vans making small package deliveries blocking/double parking the way an United Parcel truck would which is bs in itself.

I think I heard they're experimenting smaller package deliveries by using drones, in Europe....but this was awhile ago. Also, if the transport company has locker centers near you, you might pick up your package there, like on the way to or from work, etc.

BJs is taking over the old K-Mart store here. I have never been in one, but they sent me a promotional membership offer.

I don't know who will take over the Sears store, Amazon maybe.

I wonder how many shopping malls have died and how many more will die in the very near future. We need the exercise of mall walking so visit your local mall and get in shape!

Sears used to be my first "go to" for what I call basic stuff of decent quality. Our local mall Sears had to cut down to about half its size & more "with it" shops moved in. But I had a "last straw" experience about a year ago, walking in with my cane, ready to buy around $100 worth of bedding, & clerk refused to help me find a cart because there were none iin the usual space by the door. I couldn't carry it all & still keep my balance. On way out after not buying anything, I saw a good dozen of carts left sitting in the lot. Never going back.

In contrast, our local Targets bend over backwards to help old folks find what they want, will take care of your walker at Cust Svc while you scoot around on the electric cart.
My mobility is no better, & I still like to actually FEEL the stuff I buy, tho I do order some things on line. I value accessibility & customer service iin actual stores.

I used to work near the Ala Moana Shopping Center in part of the '70s, and I would often go and have lunch at the Sears store there. To get to the restaurant you had to take the escalator down and on the way you could already smell the popcorn and other goodies that was on that street level floor. There was ice cream and I think even cotton candy. I did buy clothes there, too. There were lots of concessionsas as well. You could get eyeglasses. flowers, get dry cleaning done, make travel arrangements, and lots more. Sears at the shopping center is gone now and replaced with more upscale stores a few years ago. End of an era, really, is part of what this is all about. It makes me nostalgic and a bit sad.

When we lived overseas in the the sixties, I would order clothes from the Sears Catalogue. That was real exciting. Lol

All the Sears stores in Canada got shut down. The big wigs got big buy out cheques while the regular employees got their pensions ‘short changed.’
It is very sad. I can remember the Sears truck that used to come directly to our house and deliver stuff.
Some things in life I wish didn’t change but that’s part of reality. Life IS about change.

Apparently Sears and CEO still trying to save the company or whats left of it, at least through Christmas. But bankruptcy plans include closing another 150 stores on top of what they have been doing for years. There are also alot vendors that what the company liquidated to help ensure they get what they are owed.

My guess is that the hedgefund manager/CEO is trying to save his money in game, not Sears the company.

I just saw an ad on TV about Sears and refurbished appliances that you can get for 50% off. The ad had a man and a young couple on a golf cart going through a huge appliance warehouse. Is Sears going into the used appliance business now or what's up with this ad. Did anyone else see it?

Sears has always had large warehouse stores where they sell "scratch and dent", refurb, floor models and customer returned appliances. There was one in Houston for years but I don't know if it's still there.
