Seeking info & opinions about Compression Hose

Are they the same as what used to be called “support hose”? Dr suggested I try them for some leg problems.
Veins on R leg, swelling in L leg after I hit my shin really hard a few months back.Questions like whether they help, where or what brands to buy. Some I’ve seen look like one would have to stretch really hard with ones hands to get them on & I have some arthritis & nerve damage in one that would make it quite uncomfortable. The alternative would be wrapping them with elastic bandage every day. Thanks in advance.

My only experience with this topic was last year after my hip replacement. I was told to wear compression hose for a month after surgery. The brand that the hospital provided me was "Covidien". I was provided with just a single stocking.

It was really tight, was hard to put on and not much easier to remove. I finally gave up on them after a week.

I think regular support hose are not as "squeezy" and easier to deal with.

I believe that they are firmer/tighter than the normal
support hose, to prevent DVT, Deep Vein Thrombosis,
airlines give them out sometimes on long haul flights.

I have varicose veins. I've tried several compression garments and compression socks. All are a struggle to put on & take off.
I've been using elastic bandages with velcro for several years. Besides being easy to use, I can control the compression - which is usually too tight with socks or garments.

My mother had to wear compression stockings. They were expensive, even decades ago compared to regular trouser socks. They are purposely tight and not that easy to put on. I wound up having to cut the tops of hers on two sides so they wouldn't cut into her calf.

i wear compression hose now and then when my knees hurt--i buy the ones with no feet in them --if you wear a small its best to buy xlarge

My mother used to wear them.

At that time her PCP gave her a prescription for them, she had them fitted at a medical supply company and was reimbursed by Medicare for the cost of two pairs each time.

I would be leery of going off on my own and purchasing something over the counter for fear I might do more harm than good.

Good luck!
