Selling art, need help

I have two pieces, one is an original painting, the other is a numbered print (I think). Neither fits my life and am seriously considering selling them. Have done an internet search on how to do this, without success.

Have you ever done this? These are NOT garage sale pieces! Both have documentation. There is a gallery of sorts here; I will stop in there this week and see if they can be of help.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank You!

I would look for an auction house that specializes in such things.

If they are particularly valuable they may want to wait for a special event to include them.

If they are fairly average they may not choose to handle one or two items.

Another thought, if you pay a fairly substantial income tax and the items are of significant value it may be possible to donate them and take a tax deduction. 🤔

Sadly, it’s much easier to buy things than it is to sell them.

I doubt an auction house would take them? I paid $1K for the original painting about 15 years ago, the other I inherited and an online search shows one of those numbered prints being offered on EBay at $1200.

Sadly, it’s much easier to buy things than it is to sell them.
That's for sure!

One of my clients buys and sell art as an Investment. In a casual conversation way back, he said he does all his negotiating through a gallery. He’s found that even with the gallery taking a percentage, he sells more faster than he does when he sells privately.

The other thing he mentioned was getting an assessment of worth so that he could knowledgeably deal with the gallery for potential sale offers or the art’s listed sale price.

Take no all that into account, it seems to me that your first step would be to to get an assessment of worth before you even begin figuring out how to sell them. It may not be worth the time and trouble to list them. I’d start by calling some local galleries and just ask how to go about assessing the worth of your art.

From my experience, it is difficult to sell art from unknown artists, especially contemporary.
Prices are low...you have to be very lucky. I live near a major city for art, a lot of high quality work.
Live auctioneers I used but it can be costly to send them the art by UPS. Selling is online.
Galleries can be very choosy. Is this a notable artist? Abstract or representation
I have artwork Id like to sell, but I doubt I would
get much, so I don't try. Craigslist?
