Send your kids this AirBNB Story - Hidden Cameras

If they get recorded via hidden cameras, they cannot sue AirBNB. They can only go to mediation. Likewise, AirBNB does not do high-level background investations of their landlords and a criminal background will not necessarily block them from being AirBNB Hosts.

Once again, we hear the Confessions of Silicon Valley. They figure if they say 14 Hail Marys they can keep on sinning. No big deal.

It's enough to make you want to sleep in your car anymore.
I'll just stick to motels and hotels. At least they can be sued and they take illegal videos seriously. Not so with Silicon Valley companies. They simply don't care. It's all free porn to them.

I know a number of people who use Airbnb on a regular basis and love it. They would never get a hotel room unless they had no choice.

It’s hard to know how Airbnb could prevent these independent landlords from doing things like hide cameras. The best they can do is police them, kick them out when they find evidence of abuse, and, report them to the police if any law may have been violated. My guess is that if they did all that, their prices which are already getting rather high would be even higher. And, like many business criminals, the bad guys would just restart the business under another name and continue on with their nasty ways.

I have used Airbnb a few times overseas and it worked out well. But, domestically, I have not found their properties to be worth the money for the type of travel I do. This year I am a Platinum member of a big hotel chain and as a result I get a free water bottle worth about 10 cents when I check in. YIPPEE!!! But, it’s better than having my svelte, 24 year old body spread all over the internet for the entertainment of questionable people. I’ll keep the 24 year old’s body in the trunk of my car until cousin Guido can dispose of it.

I've had great experiences with AirBnBs and VRBO. Might there be a few shady characters here and there? Maybe, but that's true of every place and every experience.

It's been a while since Paris Hilton & Rick Salomon's sex video debut shocked the world. Today, anybody can post their ten minutes in glorious HD. A sex tape isn't the earth shaking event it used to be. Yes, being the unknowing stars of your own sex production is a complete evasion of privacy, and I don't know why it doesn't break some law. That said, and I hope it will be prosecuted, but it's not as devasting as it used to be. There are thousands of such videos. If that's any consolation.

Yes Airbnb has had some bad press recently and that's too bad because I haven't had any problems. This is my second season for sharing my home on Airbnb and I have had nothing but stellar experiences with all of my renters. They all left my home almost as clean as when they arrived and no one took anything nor broke anything. They even remove used bedding/pile on the floor. I insist on washing linens myself.

I've been fully booked and have received all 5 star reviews (that's as high as it goes). One family left fresh Sunflowers on the table (left house spotless too), others left beach supplies for others to enjoy, all have been quiet and had well behaved children. My last renter left a new beach hat and bracelet for me on the kitchen island and the most beautiful thank you note I've ever received.

Well, there was one high school boy who left his old flat dingy pillow and took one of my new favorite ones...but Lord knows he needed it lol and it wasn't exactly something sentimental. Oh, I had to replace a frying pan they used and had left in the BBQ with top down until it was totally blackened and food stuck on it. I just replaced it with a new one. No biggee.

One rental owner told me her renters have been nightmares. Said she had found their mattress on the beach and her blinds often needed replacement. She doesn't use Airbnb. She uses a local realty company.

I just made my first Airbnb rental a few days ago, for August when I go to my older daughter's baby shower. I"ve always preferred hotels. But the cheapest hotel room I could find—and this is in a small city in North Dakota—was $188/night, and that's before all the local, federal, and state taxes are added on. Totally outrageous. I thought it was the drop-off weekend for the local university, but I checked and no; that was the regular rate.

I was going to stay just one night, but then I found an Airbnb with a long history of positive reviews (a Super Host). I got two nights for $180, and that includes both nights, all the taxes and the cleaning fees, etc. We'll see how it goes. If anyone records me they're not going to see anything very interesting.
