Senior discounts.

Do you guys ask for the 'Senior Discount' every place you shop ?

It's not like I've got more $$$ than I know what to do with and wouldn't mind saving a buck or two here and there but I never do because in the back of my mind it would kinda make me feel like a dog begging for a bone and if the business didn't have one I'd feel sorta embarrassed for even asking.

I've been trained to ask

I never ask unless the cashier happens to mention it or I see a sign indicating that they offer a discount.

Every now and then I might ask. I was having some work being done on my garage door and having some fun talking the guys doing the work. One of them asked me what I did for a living and I said I had just retired. Then kind of joking around I ask if they gave senior discounts? "Why yes we do, as long as you ask for it," was his reply. Wow, I wasn't expecting that, lesson learned I guess.

I don't usually "ask", per se, but we have a Golden Buckeye card that I've learned to use at Subway or a couple of the pizza places I patronize. McD has a senior coffee. Walgreens gives 20% discount to seniors the first Tuesday of every month, and that can be a substantial savings …..one of the cashiers knows me, but if she's not on duty I make sure to ask for senior discount.

I don't ride city buses much anymore, but fare is half off if you have a senior card. I think some of the taxi companies give senior discount, but Uber does not.

Many places where I regularly shop give it to me without being asked. Even got one at Taco Bell yesterday. I do not mind, every savings helps.

I usually know who does so I am prepared. It does not hurt to ask. When doing my Kroger surveys I always mention that I would like them to bring back the senior discount here in Texas. So far no response which means they don't intend to do it again.

I always ask if I'm not sure. When I go to amusement areas and parks with my Daughter and family I always ask for a senior discount. It adds up, those parks and recreational areas can be so expensive.

I don't always ask. A number of places give me the discount automatically since, I assume, they see me as mature. I also get the veteran's discount but often forget to ask for that too. I need one of those bots to carry around with me to remember such things (asking for senior or veterans discount) :). Don...

Discounts for seniors vary and change and the ages also vary from 60 to 65 to 70 etc. You can search the internet for businesses that give discounts. I never think to ask but I will now.

I only ask for it if it happens to be posted or if I already know that there's a senior discount, but admittedly this is a touchy area for me.

Having owned a small business with a retail component, I was astonished - and often dismayed - by the number of people who not only requested but aggressively demanded discounts because they were seniors, teachers, attached to the military somehow, police or fire employees, or buying more than one of something.

Our prices were quite low already, and no, we did not offer discounts to the above. Only "friends of the company" i.e., personal friends or parents of our employees got discounts - and even then it was 10% maximum.

teachers, attached to the military somehow, police or fire employees,

@StarSong - I understand what you're saying.

These people are not poor - it's not like they need to save a couple dollars in order to be able to eat.
