Senior pranks in California high school cause over $10k in damages

Senior pranks or a pack of about 40 people vandalized a Malibu California high school including super glueing 20 doors shut, flipped a golf cart down some stairs(golf carts in a high school?), ripped down clocks, tossed food around and painted some obscene graffiti. Graduation is next week.

So with less than 2 weeks to graduation and freedom they will now be starting the adult lives with a criminal record if they don't have one.

"Senior prank" at Malibu High School causes tens of thousands of dollars in damage, district says

I agree that this is serious and should not be tolerated but I don’t believe that it should ruin the lives of these half baked young kids that got caught up in some sort of momentary pack mentality.

I believe that they should make restitution, participate in the cleanup and maybe perform some sort of community service without having a permanent criminal record.

This doesn’t even come close to the January 6, Capital Insurrection by thousands who were ultimately offered clemency for their actions.

I would expect the high school to have security cameras outside and inside, so it could be easy to see the vandals. With thousands of dollars in damage, I would believe the charges may be a felony.

Not a good start to a person’s life looking to get into a college or university, not to mention military service and several other companies that will vet their future employees.

I totally agree with you!!!

It's not accurate to say that the participants were "ultimately offered clemency" en masse. Here’s a clearer picture:

Legal Outcomes of January 6:

  • More than 1,300 individuals have been charged with crimes related to the Capitol attack, including trespassing, assaulting officers, and seditious conspiracy.
  • Over 500 people have been sentenced, with many receiving significant prison time—some up to 22 years.
  • A small number of individuals have received reduced sentences or been granted clemency, but this is not the norm and has mostly occurred through standard legal processes (appeals, plea deals, or time served).

Why is it that you usually try to make bad things sound not so bad? These kids (?) are now adults. They couldn’t wait to be 18, so here they are now 18, but their maturity failed to keep up with their age. Do you believe that the Menendez brothers received fair justice or should their case have been dismissed because what they did wasn’t so bad for what they were put through and they were so young?

If we are going to keep forgiving the younger generation because of their age, why not go back to not becoming an adult until they reach the age of 21? I was in Vietnam at the age of 18 and I was still considered a minor. The government expected me to go to a foreign country and kill people. I had nothing against those people, yet I had to kill some of them because the government told me I had to.

Not necessarily true. Several spent years in prison without or before even going to trial. (However, now, the bleeding hearts want all of the illegals that were allowed to enter the country unvetted, think that each person should have due process. How do you think that would go over in any other country, except maybe Canada?) One unarmed female was killed while backing out of a window. The killer faced no charges. Even though the January 6 people were given clemency doesn’t mean their record was cleared.

I couldn't help but relate when I read this--it took me right back to my teenage self. I was a holy terror and got so many other people in trouble with me. I'm laughing, the good ole days.

What ever happened to toilet paper on tree branches and sneakers on utility cables.

I get graduation being a milestone but as I was told graduation night might to want to temper my excitement because it was only the beginning of good and bad. And they were right. High school became a passing thought less than a year out.

And these parents who post a graduate sign on their front lawn not helping. It's not the end but the beginning. They even do that for grade school grads now. Now wonder.
