Seniors, Are You More or Less Confident Now That You're Older?

I was listening to a radio show, where they were discussing if seniors felt more or less confident in their old age.

Some callers said they felt less confident, because they no longer felt good about their physical or mental capabilities.

Some elderly callers said that they felt more secure about themselves and were more confindent than when they were younger. They counted their life lessons and experiences as a plus.

I have to say that I feel I'm in the latter category. I feel more confident because I've been through a lot and experienced more in life now. I know I'm less able physically than when I was a twenty year old, but even back then I wouldn't feel confident about doing anything risky, like cliff or sky diving, etc.

How do you feel now that you're in your senior years, more or less confident than when you were young?

I am pretty (well almost) sure I am probably more confident than when I was bullet proof and knew it all. Now I know I don't know it all and I stand a pretty good chance of getting my arse whipped, and make a few mistakes. I think maybe I might be as confident as I was, I just don't know if I am or not but there is a good chance I am. So I might say yes.

When I was young, I feared people, religion, and not having enough courage. Well with time, I became aware that all people are not to be feared. After some scary thinking, I realized that religion was just that, scary thinking. Just thoughts. And by now, I know I have the courage to face almost anything. Maybe not a tiger or bear, but I've faced all other challenges with the knowledge that you must face things head or forever be peeking around the corner the rest of my life.
So yes, I believe that I am more confident now than when I was younger. :hide:

Sid, I agree we probably had more of a false confidence when we were young and thought we were bullet proof, but now it's a differnent kind of confidence that comes with age.

Ina, with all you've experienced in life, I admire you for moving forward and facing your challenges head on. Hopefully there'll be very few challenges facing you in the future. You are a strong woman to be sure!

The older i get the more confidence, i speak my mind and if people don't like it i don't care its their problem, mind you i don't get into the practice of offending people,
i'm slower at responding to questions because at 75 i have that much knowledge in my cranium it take:wink:'s while to find it hehehehe opps move the cursor dummy. he haw he haw
