Anybody remember this one? When I saw Grayson's thread "Preston has died" (not the same Preston) it triggered my memory of this TV show that I used to watch as a kid. Because of this show, and reading a number of books by Jack London, there was a period of several years in my childhood where I was determined to move to Alaska when I grew up.

The Yukon is in Canada. I remember the show and I love sled dogs.

I remember the Sargent Preston show very well, in fact I remember one summer sending away for a Sargent Preston ore detector. I'm not sure if you needed box tops to get it. I would go down the street every day to collect the mail in hopes that my detector had arrived. Finally it came, all it really amounted to was a little plastic black box with a picture on the front of Sargent Preston and his dog,I think his name was King . You inserted a battery and it buzzed and vibrated. At that point, with a lot of imagination, you were ready to discover ore. I guess at that time I was thrilled with it. Great memory.

The Quaker Oats Company formed the Klondike Big Inch Land Company for kids like you.

Slipping a little off the trail.....has anyone read "Mrs. Mike: The Story of Katherine Mary Flannigan" or seen the movie "Mrs. Mike" (Dick Powell and Evelyn Keyes)? The book was based on the true story of a young Irish girl from Boston who marries a Mountie and goes off to live in the Yukon. Very enjoyable and moving.
