Several varieties of donuts and bagels in one bag

I've noticed lately that the bakery department of the local grocery store is packaging donuts and bagels differently. Instead of putting half a dozen of one kind in a bag (like all chocolate donuts or all sesame seed bagels), they are now putting several different kinds in a bag (e.g. 2 poppy seed, 2 plain & 2 cheese bagels or 2 cinnamon, 2 raised and 2 filled donuts).

I don't like it this way. I'd have to buy 4 items I don't particularly like to get 2 I do. I went to the bakery section and asked about it. Whoever was in charge at that moment said she felt people liked variety. I told her I didn't, but I suppose my input will not be heeded. :(

What would your input be?

I can see that if they were day old, deeply discounted. But regular full price? No, I wouldn't like that either.

I agree with you, @debodun . But maybe the majority does like variety.

Or the store could have other reasons. For example, it might be impossible to predict who's going to choose what on a given day, and then they have leftovers if one kind and run out of another kind. But with the variety pack people just buy it anyway.

One of my local bakery shops tried the same thing.
They lost customers so went back to selling individually which really is cheaper as they do charge for the packaging in price.
