Shall we discourse work?

Be what you is not what you what you ain’t

I had supervision with the program manager yesterday. Among things she unveiled to me her concept of a 5 day work week. I was hired with the contingency of having Saturday and Sunday off. I work part time so to my PM my hours would change from. 2:00 pm-7:00pm to 4:00pm-8:00pm. I commute 35 miles, and during winter months the winding country roads can become hazardous, look out for deer.

I suppose that it would depend on why you work and how much you are paid.

If it's a basic minimum wage job with few benefits I would look for something closer to home or quit working and concentrate on reducing my expenses.

It seems like just staying home and doing nothing would mean substantial savings in travel expenses, work clothes, meals, etc...

If it's a professional position that pays well or if it's something that you are passionate about then it may be worth the effort involved.

It's time to get out the yellow pad and make a list of pros and cons.

Well, whether you work 4 or 5 hours/day, you still have to trek the 35 miles each way. It's your time, your money and hopefully you get some fun in working. Years ago, I traded working 1 1/2 hours away for more cash. To me, the money seemed more important than the driving time, and loss of 'me' time. Today, I'm not so sure I'd do that. Let us know what you choose.

If you are a part-time worker, you will probably get the worst hours and days. I was in management several years and did the scheduling for all the employees. No matter what they promised you, part-timers will work nights, weekends, holidays. (whenever regular employees don't want to work).
Companies don't care how far away you live or what you have to go through to get there. Companies care about PROFIT! Nothing else!
They set the rules. They make the changes. You are at their whim and at their mercy.
