Shoe trick will prevent child deaths in hot cars

If you are driving a child, after you put them in a back seat – in a car seat, booster or buckled in with a seat belt – put your left shoe back there too. I bet you will never forget your precious cargo. A lot of you who read this will say, "There's no way I'd ever forget my kid." And a lot of you will be wrong.

Thank you,Meanderer. I heard that the other day and thought it was a great idea. And I am so tired of hearing people get indignant about anyone ever being able to forget their kid. Obviously,it does happen-especially to people who aren`t used to having the kids with them-grandparents,dads when mom usually picks up from daycare and vice versa. Never say never.

Any precaution that helps is well worth the effort. I just have my dog, but when I have to leave him for a few minutes when I go into a store (which is rare), he's parked under a tree with all windows half open....and I rush to get back out to him. Once or twice years ago, I left him in the car with the air conditioner on. Normally I just keep him home on hot days. But I agree, when preoccupied with other things, people may forget.
