How Thousands of Indigenous Children Vanished in Canada

The discovery of the remains of hundreds of children at the sites of defunct schools in British Columbia and southern Saskatchewan has rekindled discussion of a sinister time in Canada’s history.
OTTAWA — Across Canada, many Indigenous communities are beginning the lengthy process of identifying unmarked graves on the grounds of former residential schools and investigating the deaths of children who attended the schools, where generations were abused and sometimes died.
The remains of more than 1,000 people, mostly children, have been discovered on the grounds of three former residential schools in two Canadian provinces since May.
In late June, the remains of 751 people, mainly Indigenous children, were discovered at the site of a former school in the province of Saskatchewan, a Canadian Indigenous group said.
The discovery, the largest one to date, came less than a month after the remains of 200 people, mostly children, were found in unmarked graves on the grounds of another former boarding school in British Columbia. In July, the Penelakut Tribe in British Columbia said it had uncovered about 160 undocumented and unmarked graves.

About 20 years ago, an effort to find remains started at the Kamloops school, which operated from 1890 until the late 1970s and was once Canada’s largest, with 500 students at its peak. Members of the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc First Nation made their grim discovery after bringing in ground-penetrating radar.

Their children vanished at an Indigenous boarding school. This tribe is bringing them home after 140 years

Rose Long Face was 18 years old when she was taken to the first government-run boarding school for Indigenous children in the United States. Within two years, she died and never returned home.

No country is immune to violence in one form or another. Its not a competition, as in my country is better then yours, blah blah blah. And some countries might not blast their violent incidents all over the news. My country, your country, their country, may have few violent acts/deaths this year but may have had an exceptional amount 5 years ago or next year. No one country is better then the other in violence. No one wins the bragging rights.

If it were a contest, I imagine we would spend a lot of time in the winners circle. It really has reached the level of ludicrous in the good old US of A.
I don't know if you were here when Aunt Marg was here and was a moderator or not, but the way she was raised she was used to referring to the US as the US of A. Many here took offense to that even though she meant no disrespect. It became so bad for her she left! She was a good person. Comparing countries becomes heated. 😥

Yes, But facts are facts, and the truth will out. A big part of the many problems in are country, is that the truth has become negotiable, and that can only end badly for everyone.

Yap! There is an element in Canada that loves to dig up old bones! It's like that they don't have enough things to worry in June, 2022.
