Should a child be able to sue parents for college tuition?

This sad case has been in the news with the child winning in court regardless of the child's previous behavior of defying her parents rules. They are divorced but always worked together in her her best interest and it seems that her defiant behavior of not obeying any of their rules has paid off. The parents were even willing to help her pay her college expenses for the state college but not a private one. I think that the judge was wrong and I suspect that you do, too...

Wrong decisions by the courts are made all the time.....this was one of them.

To a point, welcome to this "day and age" of teens! No matter how the teen acts/doesn't obey home rules, they know they haven't got the money for college or can't get a college loan (for whatever reason), so they look to the parents whom they KNOW have the money.

There was one court case, in Morris Plains, NJ, where the judge denied the teens request for money from her parents. You can read it about it online. Her name is Rachel Cannings.

I agree. Where is it written that parents MUST pay for a college education for their children?? This is ridiculous.

When will judges ever quit making these stupid mistakes? It's almost impossible to get one off the bench.

Activist judges seem to be the bane of citizens. One wonders where they are coming from and what their agenda is.

My Daughter divorced her husband and in the Divorce Decree, it stated that he had to pay one half of all college expense for their Son. My Grandson is a Sophomore at an University. He had tuition, rent, food, car expense and general expenses. He works part-time. He also gets Hope Scholarship money. My ex-son-in-law refuses to pay anything. My Daughter's present Husband pays all my Grandson's expenses. He also has two Sons in universities, so things are really tight for him. My daughter is taking her ex to court to get payment. Her Lawyer said she had a slam dunk case. My Grandson has never been any trouble, has a 3.2 GPA and respected by everyone. My ex-son-in-law knew what he was signing and I think should pay.
