Private homeowners in San Francisco will have to pay a one percent tax on the value of all home furnishings if they rent out their home even if for a couple of weeks.

Issue came about after online rental sites said they should be treated like any other business after complaints towards them of unfair business practices.
Traditional realtors and others said it was unfair how they could advertise a rental like a person could advertise something on ebay. Should the occasional renter be treated like a hotel or apt owner renting out year round? Wouldn't the rental income be included in/on local tax returns anyway?
