This saddens me greatly. I've enjoyed his songs for decades. I was first introduced to his music by the hit song What You Won't Do For Love, which was among the top 10 on Billboard, R & B and Adult Contemporary charts. My supervisor at the time bought me the heart shaped 45 which I thought was so cool and I bought the album it was from. I also love his cover of Don't Ask My Neighbor, preferring it over the original by The Emotions (who are featured in his version).
From Wikipedia:
On the advice of Boz Scaggs, Bobby wrote for many other artists including Al Jarreau, Roberta Flack, Chicago, Neil Diamond and Boz himself. Bobby was famous for his R & B but also for singing the classics. His music is featured on some movie soundtracks. His health declined after severe side affects from fluoroquinolone. He died at home in his wife's arms on March 14th. Rest in Musical Paradise Bobby.

No, not familiar. As it was he was for R&B, contemporary, soul and jazz. Sorry, none of those genre appeal to me.

He wrote for some wonderful artists.

I must have missed your original post @OneEyedDiva. What a great artist he was. I saw a brief news clip about his death and it mentioned that his picture was never put on the cover of his original album because his record label didn't want the public to know he was white. What a soulful artist.

I always loved the Emotions' Don't Ask My Neighbor. This is the first time I've heard his version. His voice was amazing.

RIP Bobby. The world lost a great, talented artist.

You would be correct about why his picture was not on the first album. I wasn't the one who was going to bring it up here but on Facebook my Honorary Son #2 mentioned it and I told him the reason. Just about every Black person you talk to will tell you they were shocked when they found out Bobby was White, as was I. My son said a friend of his told him now he feels like his whole childhood was a lie. :D In this video, the older fella said he went 34 years without knowing. Watch till the end and he explains exactly why the choice was made to conceal his identity at first. I kind of teared up a little watching him sing so soulfully in one of the segments of the video.

And here's the video when they first reacted to Bobby's song...it was before his death. I love these boys, especially the one on the left. They were my first YT subscription. :)

Those videos were great! I especially liked the guy who talked about going to see Bobby Caldwell to get into a Skylark! I honestly never knew he was white either until he passed away and I saw the news story.

I love the videos where they first discover an old song/artist. This was one of my faves. But then Lisa Fischer is one of my favorite singers.

Glad you enjoyed the videos Doug. I think my BFF may have played for Lisa Fischer or either was on the same tour as her. I think I asked her awhile back but don't remember....I'll have to ask her again.
