Oh yes, I played a ton of snooker when I was a young man, mostly in L.A., but have played on the big track (6' x 12") in Canada and England. But the American game is largely played on 5' x 10' tables, which is slightly easier than the larger tables. Snooker was very popular in the southern U.S. up until the 1960s.
One of the most popular uses for snooker tables in the U.S. is to play a gambling game called Golf. The best games are for between 5-7 players. Each player is assigned a ball, and the object is to sink his ball in each of the pockets in order, starting with his break, to the corner pocket to the player's right of the "D". Each player only gets one turn per inning unless he pots his ball, at which point he continues to the next pocket.
I wish we could get Brit pro snooker in the U.S. on TV. And I've hoped for years that pro pool would get sponsors for U.S. TV, but I doubt that it'll ever happen. The players are not trustworthy...
