Back story is that I had my land line number for over 25 years. First with Frontier, then kept it when I switched to Spectrum. All while I lived in Rochester NY. When I moved to Batavia, I asked Spectrum if I needed to change my number. Nope..you can bring it with you. Fine. Remember, this was all in OCTOBER.
Today I was curious why I had not received any phone calls in several days..not even the several robo telemarketer calls per day. So, I used my cell to dial my land line. Recording said "This number is disconnected or no longer in service". Called Spectrum. They said..oh, we see your number as THIS (not my original number), I asked why it was suddenly not working. Turns out Frontier still "owned" the number, and it was connected to the 911 service in Rochester. What the heck.
After a half hour of trying things out, they got me changed, I had to switch the hone line to a different outlet in my modem. Now, new number. Now the fun part..changing it with everyone I know

@SeaBreeze Really. My thoughts were "I really don't need this SH**" Spectrum should have known I could not bring my number. Interesting thing is, last month I noticed the different phone number on my bill. So, I called Spectrum then. Operator said that since my old number was ringing in, then no worries. Just a glitch.

As time goes on we see we have to watch our own backs and not assume anyone will notify us of things we need to know, like you said Spectrum should have known and notified you. Also, a lot of times those we speak to on the phone about these things aren't always correct in their info.

A bit off topic, but yesterday I got a credit card bill that had my last month's charge on it and a late fee. I have made sure never to be late in paying a bill for decades now, my payments are always on time. Also, if I can't afford to pay off my credit card each month, I don't make the purchase, so I never pay interest.

I mailed the payment that was due on 1/1 in mid December. I called my bank and they showed it posted on 1/7, so something went haywire in the postal service, which is rare for me. The gal I talked to at American Express was very nice, she acknowledge receiving the payment and said since I've been an excellent customer for decades, she'd credit me the late fee on my next bill. I just had to subtract the last month's payment from the current bill. I'm grateful for the times that these things are handled properly.
