So tell me about online shopping for groceries

It's hard to mess up products in cans, boxes and bottles, but what's your experience with produce and meat, specifically? I'm picky about those.

I have been happy with it for the most part. One time only I received an order full of dented cans and things set to expire "tomorrow". It was as if they were trying to get rid of stuff. But like I said, that was one time only.
That is the only problem I have had in about 4 years now. I pick mine up because they do not deliver to my area. The quality of meat and vegetables has been about the same as I get going into the store.

Mostly I buy packaged goods, especially things that are heavy. Any time I did buy vegetables, they‘ve been fine. I’ve watched the packers filling orders and they look items over well.

Like DebraMae, I've been happy with it for years now. There were a few boo-boos, but all I do is get on the website and say I wasn't happy with something and they refund it. My shoppers always pick the meats I would choose... and same for produce except one time the tomatoes were mushy. Keep in mind, though, that it all comes down to your shopper and if they're good at it. It could vary store to store and shopper to shopper but I'm planning to keep doing the curbside pickup.

I rarely buy groceries online, when I do they're from the major supermarkets... but the reason I don't is because I like to choose my own sell by dates.. and also the condition of any fresh goods. On the website you can choose to substitute or not if any good on your list are not available..

Today I ordered online because we have heavy rain and flooding .. and it arrived 1/2 hour ago.. The only Fresh item I ordered was a gallon of milk.. and guess what ?.. it was the only thing not in date.. how very annoying.Use by date is for today.. of course I didn't see this until after the delivery guy was gone and I was putting the items away.. so I had to go back online and get the money refunded to my card... but how hard is it for pickers to look at dates on fresh goods ?... you wouldn't think it would be difficult, but it seems it must be because it happens often.. and one of the main reasons I don't shop for groceries online..

Wish I could convince DD to use it because it would save money...like when she sees something in the store thinking "that looks good," and it turns out to be something that gets forgotten about and shoved in the back of the pantry or fridge. She's really bad about impulse shopping in the grocery store.

@hollydolly That wouldn't happen in our store because we remove products from the shelves the day before the expiration date and they get marked down, but it would be annoying for sure to get milk dated for today.

My grocery buying online does not include fresh groceries but when I use pickup service and instacart any substitution in produce, meat or dairy was always for the better and more expensive items with no extra charge, so like others, I'm happy with it.

I believe that shopping for fresh produce is much better when you do it yourself, and you can see the actual item you are putting in your cart. My experience has been that the shoppers tend to put in the smallest item they can find (cabbage, pineapple, etc), and this really upsets me to get a cauliflower the size of a grapefruit instead of a nice sized one.
Even worse, is an item like pineapple, where it cost the exact same price whether you get a little one or a large one, and they bring me a midget pineapple instead of a normal sized one, and I would have picked out the largest one that looked good to me.

Walmart is really bad for this, and also does not do substitutions most of the time; so if i order a brand X loaf of bread, and they are out of brand X, they won’t bring me a different brand, they just leave me with no bread in my order. I have to order two different brands each time and hope that at least one kind is in stock.
