Social Security payments now

Did you get money deposits from SS in your bank? New law for them to give back your money this month and next.
I got a large deposit! So happy

I think that it’s a timing issue for the folks that normally get paid at the beginning of the month.

When the new month starts on a weekend day the SS payment for that month may be deposited in the last day of the previous month.

That appears to be a possibility this year because February and March 1st are both on Saturday.

I get paid on the second Wednesday and never experience that adjustment.

Mine gets deposited on the second Wednesday as well. It often arrives early but is listed as "pending" until Thursday.

It could be the back payment for people who are now beginning to receive full SS benefits for federal and public employees that received reduced benefits.
I think you are confused about what the double-dip is.

Instead of being paid at normal rates like everyone else, they are now back to taking SS at an enhanced rate intended for low-income folks. They take that on top of the pensions which they have that were shielded from paying in their fair share of FICA taxes like the rest of workers.

They are exploiting an unintended loophole in the SS formulas that WEP and GPO were attempts to close. This is a substantial windfall for the few on the backs of everyone, putting more strain on depletion of the Trust Fund.

Never miss a chance. 😉🤭😂

"Let's see just how fast we can wreck everything, ... for everybody!"
"This is a hard work to make it deal!" "Up all night for decades to figure it out and give back!"

I've been getting Social Security for going on 13 years now. In all that time it has never been late. It has always been direct deposited on time or a day or two early. However if it is ever so much as one day and or one dollar short I will raise All Holy Hell with my elected officials.

Yes it’s because of the social security fairness act. Everyone should have their back pay by the end of March and their higher benefit starts in April. I received mine as did many of my friends. Someone said they are doing it by region which makes sense because we all live in the same city.

My SS is deposited on the third Wednesday. On the Thursday evening before my SS deposit is deposited for the following Wednesday, it shows up as a pending deposit in my checking account. It wasn't there last evening. It's not there this morning, and the only info on the website says "there is no activity scheduled for the next 15 days." I'm getting as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

I went to SSA.gov and signed into my account to see if there's anything amiss or if there's something I was supposed to do and didn't. Nope. Everything is up to date. My info hasn't changed in 16 years.

Lemme just say this :poop: is getting real, and I'm getting scared. At least I have enough savings to carry me through for a while, and DD/DSIL certainly won't throw me to the wolves🐺🐺

I'm a retired USPS letter carrier receiving a government pension. When I became eligible for Social Security I'd be awarded $600 per month. Then, when they figured in my pension, the amount was cut in half. After paying Medicare I got a check for $188 per month.
The first of this month I unexpectedly received $5658 from SS. Yesterday I received a letter explaining it was not a mistake, it was from the "Social Security Fairness Act" which ended the screwing we government retirees were getting by the "Windfall Elimination Provision".
As of next month my SS check will be doubled.

My SS is also deposited on the third Wednesday of each month, but this month that isn't until the 19th. It surprises me to hear you see it as a pending transaction on the Thursday prior to it being deposited - almost a week in advance. The earliest I see mine as a pending transaction is on the Wednesday morning of the date it is actually deposited.

@MACKTEXAS It depends on the institution whether it shows up as pending and when or even at all. My DS has his account with an online bank, and his SS is actually in his account on the Monday before his fourth Wednesday deposit.

I don't pay much attention to when mine is deposited but it's always late in the month. I do check my bank account regularly watching for any fraud activity and I have never once seen a "pending" notice about my benefit deposit.

Wouldn't pending mean the bank received the payment but is verifying it? Why would that happen with a SS deposit? And if it does show as pending wouldn't that delay be the fault of the bank and not Social Security?

@C50 It all depends upon the institution. I "bank" with a credit union. All pending means is that they have received notice that the funds will be available on a particular date. If your bank doesn't do this, it's because the bank chooses not to.

Anyway, crisis averted because it just showed up in the pending column in my account. I am very relieved. They don't put it in the pending column until they are notified that the money will be available so yes, it is the fault of SSA.

I'm sort of indifferently in thoughts about the current crap going on. It would seem it is breaking Federal Laws
and if those weren't very wealthy, would already be in jail. I suppose who are owned will become apparent soon.
I sort of believe tens and tens are owned right now. So much bad luck is coming down on DC most likely soon.
I feel that this is the worst of American times now, not a proud time to say I am an American. I think that's so!
Most likely a lot of very sick people are showing up there too! Sure the internet is screwy now too!

They may play the game of Veterans day or St. Pat's Day BS.

Another thought.

Yea I got a weird letter from Social Security, and your statement could apply to me. But it sounds like they are reducing my benefits, except for an extra payment this month. So I guess that I will wait and see what develops.
