I posted this puzzle on another forum I have been on who had nerds that were blindingly knowledgeable [ assertively] and seemed to be able to solve any techno problem cited but this one had them stumped! and possible still does to this day.

my original cheap dvd player [non-bluetube] had ceased to function. I needed to replace it but couldn't get to the right place soon enough. but I did have a stand alone cheap pop-up mobile external DVD_RW player. which I had used previously to read and transfer written text or possible still photos etc from external dvd discs etc. I tried this attempting to play dvd films. No way hosea. after sometime and trial and error I found a way to enable me to insert a dvd film disc into this player and play a full showing in good quality [none bluetubed] How did I solve the problem?

Well you do need a media player software app on your computer that has the proper codecs to play DVD. My 'go to' media player is VLC, has all the necessary libraries and such included in the basic install. VLC

you are almost there - but how did I acquire one?
I have no clue, let's retrace your steps....

Still no clue, need more information.

First, which operating system are you using? Linux, MacOS, windows or...?

What did your "trial and error" efforts consist of?
