Some network comedies are actually funny

Like many of you, we've moved to streaming for almost anything other than the news and true crime stories. Typically, the network comedy shows are silly and include laugh tracks, but lately I've found a few comedies on network TV that are actually pretty funny.

St. Denis Medical- It is set in a hospital and one of my faves, Wendy McLendon-Covey from Reno 911 days heads a really funny cast. It is one of those shows where the characters look into the camera and can be really funny.

The Paper- It is "mockumentary" that is basically a spin-off of The Office and revolves around a failing newspaper in Ohio with a cast of characters that is inept and awkward. I find especially funny Sabrina Impacciatore, who is the Italian comedian that played the hotel manager in White Lotus. She adds something completely unexpected to the show.

Stumble- You probably have to live in the South to appreciate this one. It features an aging female cheerleading coach who moves to another school and inherits a group of dimwits. She is the typical Southern woman, with the drawl, blonde hair and determination, who is determined to win the championship. Kristin Chenoweth has a role in it as well.

We all need a little humor in our lives these days, so for anyone who still has network TV these might be worth a watch.

I haven't seen the others you mentioned, @seadoug but I agree about The Paper, so funny. Have you heard if it's been renewed? (We binged the whole first season on Peacock, lol.)

Someone on the forum had posted that St. Denis Medical was bad, so I didn't check it out. Now I'm thinking maybe they didn't realize it was supposed to be a comedy. :D I no longer have cable, so stream everything. I watch Abbott Elementary, Ghosts and just started watching the new show DMV (CBS) on Paramount+ a couple of weeks ago. Every now and then, I'll check out an episode of Two Broke Girls (Roku channel), mostly because I like Kat Dennings and think it's good to see Garrett Morris in something.

I don't know if it's still on Hulu, but I also enjoyed The Cool Kids.

One of the funniest characters in St. Denis Medical is actually David Alan Grier from the Cool Kids. He plays a great curmudgeonly doctor who consistently tries to one-up the other characters. Give it a try!

Thank you. Due to your recommendation, I will check it out Doug. I don't watch many comedies and always welcome the chance to laugh. I'll let you know what I think.

@officerripley I was wondering if The Paper was any good after seeing promos for it. Maybe I'll check that out too.
