Some Of Our Millenials Showed Their Brains Recently

Not to pick on all of them but on Jimmy Kimmel last night the show went to the streets asking young people to open a gallon of paint. It was sad to watch. One man put a toilet plunger on the lid thinking it would suck the lid off. The tools were in front of the people to chose from. One tried a pry bar. Others tried kitchen can openers. One guy got it open using pliers but he was ripping the entire top of the can off and so was asked to put it back on.

So we're right to be worried about the future of our world! This is what happens when people are allowed to breed indiscriminately, we get cannon fodder.

A lot of them have the money today to have painting done for them. That's what a college degree will get you...…...money!

Why the pry bar when there was a screwdriver there!! Staged for TV??

Well, my kids are Milennials and trust me, they ALL know how to open a gallon of paint!!!! They know how to use the paint, too!

My grandkids on the other hand......

My 15 year old was asking me something about her body, relating to her monthly cycle, and I answered the question, assuming her base of knowledge. I was surprised as heck when she asked another question obviously having no clue about the fundamentals. What??? When I inquired about that, she mentioned that if it was covered in a school class, she wasn't paying attention.

And then added <insert drumroll here> " I don't have an app Gramma, so how am I supposed to know?" :eek:mg: SHE WAS SERIOUS!!!

Notice there was also a corkscrew there, surprised that wasn't tried. I don't think it was staged rather it was educational TV.
I was surprised to see that the girl knew how to use the crank can opener!!

Jimmy Kimmel educational TV !!!!!!! ????????

Seems to me in order to get the job done one has to first open the can as in Step 1.

That's the kind of thinking that has been holding you back all of these years. :):playful::eek:nthego:

All you need to do these days is Google painting contractors and you are good to go.

I really don't think it's fair to blame these kids if they were not brought up in a DIY household.

Not always - My son graduated with a 4 year degree and an $80,000 debt. He's a shipping supervisor for Walmart, with 1/3 of his money going to pay that debt. He does however know how to open a paint can, coz his mama showed him how! :)

Jay Lenno had a segment called Jay walking. This is one of the Jaywalking All Stars videos.

This is about education not the ability to open a can. There are a lot more & I don't know whether to laugh or feel bad that these people are going to vote.

It also says a lot about how their folks brought them up. I've got grandsons, and GSIL, who are handy with engine repairs, maintaining their homes and using chainsaws, etc.. Like any generation, they're a mixed breed and with all of the modern conveniences that we now have, there's no need for most to learn a lot of the tasks that were a necessity for our (or at least my) generation.

When it comes to vehicles I have gone through the "Cycle of Life." Starting with a flathead six which I could work on blind folded to a computerized conglomerate on four wheels with hardware from every continent on the globe.

One summer I had my 12 year old grandson spent time with me, I was surprised when I found out that he could use/read a tape measure..He told me that his father (my son) had taught him how to use it...

No one knows everything but there are examples of how clueless some folks are and Jimmy Kimmel often goes to the streets to prove it. My biggest regret may be I am not very smart but I taught myself as a matter of survival and every day chores. He went out to ask folks questions like "how do you feel about Trump replacing the Statue of Liberty with a statue of himself?" Sadly folks responded as if it were true both pro and con. The bottom line is some folks just go through life as they please and some like me have to watch and learn and who is better off? Think about voters. How many of the millions in all countries actually are informed on issues facing their countries? What does voting straight party say about voters? How many people in the work place are afraid to speak their voices? I am proud to say I have been fired just for that reason.

So what if some young people don't know how to open a can of paint? If confronted with an unfamiliar task they'll do what countless generations have done before them. Namely, ask someone or look it up.

I think it would show more about the foolishness of our generation than of theirs if we start drawing any inferences about Millennials based on a short feature on a comedy show.
