Some rock samples I've had since a teenager

The crystals are gypsum and were collected near Syracuse New York in 1969. The green rock is microcline feldspar that came from Albany, Maine.

As a young child we had a rock shop that we visited. Aside from custom work, they also had a wonderful display of all sorts of rocks and gems and things, some polished, some not, some naturally cut, some found in natural form, but it was always a feast for the eyes, and all was available for purchase.

Feldspar (types of) are a common element of moon rocks.

This is most likely off-topic but not sure where else to post it: does anyone collect "desert glass"? IIRC, it's glass fragments left out long enough in the hot, dry desert that it turns different colors. (If you do have some, I'd love to see the pix.)

I though desert glass was caused by meteorite strikes.

The Libyan (and maybe some others) was. But back in the 60s, I remember a lot of people were collecting it, and it was regular old clear glass from soda pop bottles, etc. that, the longer it was out in the desert sun, turned interesting colors. IIRC, blue was the most rare since it meant the glass had been in the desert the longest. The hobby may well have ended since almost everything's in plastic now; too bad, it was kind of an interesting hobby.
