Some store brand products are now more expensive that name brands

I've see this trend at the grocery. It used to be that store brands were less costly than name brands (see screen shot for an example). Anyone have any theories as to why this is happening?

I don't know why it's happening, but I've noticed it. Many prices have literally doubled from two years ago. Not only are some store brands costing the same or more than national brands, the local supermarkets that used to be a lot more expensive than WalMart are now costing less for a lot of items. 🤷‍♀️

I almost get the feeling that much of society is getting dumber and less competent. Hiring and promotion standards keep relaxing to promote a general flattening and lowering the peak of the Bell Curve in order to force-fit more people into "normal."

While fairly rough reading today considering its time (1951) and market (pulp fiction) The Marching Morons - Wikipedia has proven to portray a prophetic vision.

On a side note: I used to stock up on Great Value fruit spread made with real sugar every few months at Walmart.
The ingredients were like homemade jam and the price was good.
There is no more! I checked two different stores, then online and it's gone.
I looked up online why, but found no information on that particular product. I told DH he better savor the last two jars. 😒

Great Value seems to have gotten rid of a number of things in their brand line. Just realized another one today. Yes, I know it's horridly unhealthy 🫣😬 but about once a month or every two months I enjoy half a can of their macaroni and beef (generic beef-a-roni) with some peanut butter on a piece of low-carb/calorie bread for lunch. Not even in the store any longer.

I order online for pickup a lot and there's a list for everything I've bought in the past and a great number of things now say that they're no longer available. It's annoying that it's always the things I really liked... my daughter has said the same. As soon as she starts really liking something, it's discontinued. 🤷‍♀️

It happens, however it is annoying!

I’m really surprised Deb and haven’t noticed that here. I really pay attention to grocery prices as they have gotten ridiculous and I don’t want to pay more than I have to for consumable items.
