I've never seen the long running TV series 'Peaky Blinders'. Set in Birmingham, it follows the exploits of the Peaky Blinders crime gang in the direct aftermath of the First World War.

Like many British shows, parts of this was shot in Scotland and some scenes were shot in the seaside village of Portsoy. After the death of one of the main characters, Michael Gray - played by Finn Cole, this display of messages appeared at Portsoy harbour.

Same thing is done here in the U.S. , but not just for TV and movie stars, but also for people that crashed their vehicle a friend or someone in the family will put up a cross and/or lay flowers at the site of the accident. Some people keep it up for years.

I worked with a man that his daughter was on her way home and another vehicle ran straight through a stop sign and t-boned the car on her side killing her. That was probably close to 20 years ago and he still maintains the cross and puts up new artificial flowers every so often. I think it helps their grieving, but some will say it’s done to honor the victim.

Yes, they do. Especially the Japanese people think of fictional characters to be real. After the movie "Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis" was aired, they came to Northern France in numbers and visited the real commune Bergues, went to the post office and were very disappointed that the actors of the movie were not there.
