Some times you have to stand up for your self. The Toronto Blue Jays have re-designed their July 4th hats, removing the stars .

MLB has had to accept the fact that a Canadian team isn't going to wear hats that have US style stars and stripes on their hats. The Blue Jays management has substituted a design that features the traditional design, with red maple leaf and blue bird. The Jays will wear their red uniforms on July the first, for Canada Day, and also wear them on July the 4th. Link. I think that hat looks great, looking forward to seeing the red uniforms, and I’m hoping that my tv channels will carry both the July 1 and July 4 games!
(I am actually 1/4 Canadian via my maternal grandfather . Maybe that’s why I have such a gut level interest in and respect for Canadian things, practices and places.)

Because the Jays are the only MLB team in Canada, they have fans in every part of our vast country, and when they play in American cities, you will see a sizeable Jays fan group in the stands. One example would be a game in Seattle, where hundreds drive down from central British Columbia to see the game. Games in Florida see thousands of Jays fans in the stadiums because of the number of Canadians who live there for part of the year. Red and white are Canada's national colours since about 1830, and all of our national teams wear a combination of red, white and black . Here is a sports trivia bit for you. The first football game with organized rules, was played between teams from McGill University of Montreal and a team from Harvard in 1874. It was actually a 2 game event. The first game was played using the Harvard "Boston rules " and the second game that day was played using the McGill "Rugby rules ". McGill won both games, and the teams agreed that they liked the McGill rules better.
