Son in-law run down by hit and run driver

Tuesday morning our SIL Shawn was just leaving for work, around 4:15AM. A car came roaring up the street fast, street racers are a problem there. Shawn waved his arms at the guy to slow down. The car went up the road a bit, then turned around. The driver aimed the car at Shawn, flashing the headlights and honking the horn, Shawn was knocked to the ground, and the driver sped off. My step-daughter Sara(Shawns wife) heard the commotion and came out to discover him laying there, she called 911. Shawn was taken to the trauma center at Loma Linda University, which has the best trauma care in the region.

Needless to say, Sara was beside herself, and stayed at the hospital around the clock. Shawn's son and daughter came, only close relatives and Sara were allowed to see him. There were numerous CT scans taken, monitoring the injury to Shawn's head. He had a brain bleed initially, which subsequent scans showed as having stopped. The neurosurgeon said both of the frontal lobes had bruising. My heart sank, having googled every bit of information that was relayed, there was a lot of room for bad news. However, Thursday Sara said she felt optimistic from the latest report from the neurosurgeon, and later in the day they released Shawn to go home.

Shawn has a fractured elbow, and road rash on the left side. He doesn't remember the incident, doesn't remember being in the hospital. But he does recognize and knows who people are. Time and healing...

Earlier today

Sara told us that the Sheriff's Dept. arrested a suspect, he is charged with penal-code/664-187, attempted murder. I believe it was a Ring camera that caught a glimpse of the car and driver. Turns out- the suspect is a 60 yr. old newspaper delivery guy.

I see a long road ahead, I hope Shawn can recover fully and be himself 100%, he loves life and doing what he does.

I know how relieved you and all of Shawn's family must be, that he survived this heinous crime. Hopefully, moving forward, he will recall more details.

Thank goodness for the technology today, and that the perpetrator has been caught. I hope he suffers in prison for a very long time.

How absolutely horrible! I'm glad to hear they got the creep and also glad they charged him with attempted murder instead some foolish lesser crime. Yes, it will be a long recovery road most likely, but from the little you said here, it sounds as if Shawn is the kind of person who'll ace it.

What a dreadful tale Nathan. For what it's worth don't ever give up hope of Shawn's recovery. At the age of fourteen I was knocked down on a pedestrian crossing, the right side of my body and my leg in particular, were all severely damaged. Eighteen months in hospital and a possible right leg amputation beckoned, but an elderly surgeon came to the rescue. He patched me up and reassured my father I would pull through. How right he was, sixty-three years later, I'm still around.

Prayers for Shawn, may he emulate my own recovery.

So sad to hear this. Wishing Shawn a complete recovery and hoping he can still have some peace of mind in the future after such an attack. Thinking of him and sending healing thoughts his way.

If a respected trauma center sent him home, he is probably well on his way to recovery. May it all go well for him and the family.
