Speaking of cars, Toyota's Water Engine

It sounds like a good idea but the tech and design aren't ready for mass deployment. I've seeing things about this tech for a while now. What makes me nervous is the heat involved. They even mention 'sophisticated cooling system'.

The more 'sophisticated' the more that can go wrong. Not necessarily catastrophic but the engine could shut down anytime a sensor is tripped.

Trying to deploy the tech too early could lead to other issues as with what happened with EVs. The battery tech neads way more development to lower costs, accessibility and become more repairable by mechanics and/or DIYers.

Same for the hydrogen tech.

The article seems overly dramatic and very misleading. It seems to be hyping past technoloy as though its something new.

There’s no “water-powered engine” here, despite how the article presents it. Its a hudrogen internal combution enigne using water injection into the combustion chamber to manage exsessive heat. Even water injection for cooling isn’t new -- Rolls-Royce and others were doing it in aircraft engines during WWII.

Hydrogen internal combustion engines appeared in the 1940s.

It’s not a water powered engine. It is a water cooled hydrogen combustion engine. It uses heat and water injection to make the combustion engine more efficient and cleaner by managing heat through strategic water injection. Toyota hopes to overcome the EV.
