Speed As A Means of Population Control

Yes, I'm seeing it every day and it goes on year after year. I'm talking about the speed of cars on the highway. This summer 16 seniors died on the way to a casino when the bus they were traveling in was hit by a 18 wheeler on the highway.

Today 5 adults died and of course, speed was a factor. No, they weren't teenagers. They were adults between the ages of 25 - 42. After decades of seat belt legislation, they were not even wearing them.

I'm starting to wonder if this is Mother Nature's way of controlling population. I don't think Mama Nature is to blame. I think it is people who are to blame. They say "Speed Kills" but a lot of people just don't believe it!

As I understood it, the 18 wheeler wasn’t at fault. The casino bus driver shouldn’t have pulled out. One person, the driver, made a bad mistake, which is often the case when multiple people are killed. No seatbelts, that’s just plain stupid. Most of our fatalities are motorcycle riders.

Yea, they better hurry up with those self-driving cars because people are getting dumber by leaps and bounds. If I'm doing 75 in a 55 MPH zone I can expect to get honked at and flipped off if I'm still in the left lane. I guess the state's saving money by not having much in the way of CHP Traffic officers on the road anymore. shrugs.gif

When living in Germany, I just had to drive my car on the Autobahn at high speed at least once. I got up to 110mph before, frankly, bottling it. I actually felt myself getting scared, and at that speed your reaction time to anything that happens is irrelevant. Still, since Germans know how autobahn's are, going at that speed wasn't a problem. At 90 I was often passed by a Porche or two.

I was amazed when I went to the US. I had to take their "driving test", and having been through one in the UK was prepared for something difficult. Instead, they had me drive around the block, stop at a Stop Sign, and park. That was it. Weird.
